I save my RAW and processed .psd or .psb files. I can always create a jpg from those.

Of course I can reduce storage space by simply re-exporting the edited original image (Lightroom Classic) should I need to share again, post or whatever. And storage is cheap

I am interested in what members practices are since I starting to feel that I am adding an additional level of complexity by saving the Jpegs which then have to be imported into Lr, add keywords, create duplicate folders and manage all that. Maybe I am best to 'just' maintain the originals and fully utilize Collections.

I shoot RAW files in both cards and save a copy that is backed up locally and to the cloud. I convert any for social media posts to jpgs and don't save them after posting.

I'm with Bob on this. I use Capture One and save my RAW files as referenced files. Any change to the RAW file is saved in (it's) catalog with the original RAW file still maintained. After exporting a .jpg, whether a modified file or SOOC, and using it for whatever purpose--it is deleted from my computer. If I want it again--I can just open up CP1 and export it again. I really don't understand the purpose of keeping separate files created from your editing program. Of course any original jpg or HEIC files also kept as referenced files once imported to CP1.

Yes, I do keep jpgs. Slightly off subject, a use for jpgs is using them as a rotating 'desktop' background on my computer. The computer screen background is set to change every minute, from a file named "Desktop photos". Not all my photos, just an eclectic mix.

What is more valuable to you: The time it takes you to re-export a file or the extra money it costs to store that jpeg?

I never export a file unless I am going to immediately print or post it. I never export a file just because I think it is finished--If I look at it later, I might change it some more.

I keep JPEGS as some I have to continue working on as JPEGS in PSE like haze removal or perspective control and other tasks PSE does not do in raw, or I have not found those features in the raw work area.
Thus I like to keep all that work and not lose it.

I am not very 'tech' savvy, but pretty ok with the basics of my Nikons and PSE 18 and 21. I really like the PSE Organizer. The original jpegs that I keep are always there in whichever chronological order I prefer, accompanied by subsequent psd edits. Albums on the side are divided by criteria and sub-criteria. After editing the copy of the original jpeg, that copy is retained in Organizer and filed in Windows' Pictures as a psd, or jpeg which can be emailed as an attachment. I prefer exporting files or albums as jpegs to Dropbox, from which I create links for sharing. Dropbox also serves me as a backup and syncs to my phone and tablet. I also make flash drives of most of my albums.

It is your choice. I usually keep the Jpegs made (exported) from RAW files. I rename them so they show up at the end of the file folder and ae easy to find if I need to access the Jpeg again. The storage space they take is not an issue with me. The real storage issue is with extra RAW files that are kept that are really not needed.

I save and file, on my dedicated internal SSD photo drive, RAW and processed images. I also do redundant backups to externals.

We all do it our own way and are satisfied with that way. So my way is: I save all my pictures as taken by date ( 221213 is tomorrow's date didn't want 221212) and on a separate drive save final pictures by title.
PS I have two set of them as I had a drive fail years ago.
That's my way.

I'm sure you can recall the date of the most recent picture of "Uncle Bob",
I can't do that.

My 2 TB external drive is about 3/4 full of photo files. In the past I've always saved them as either RAW or TIFF files. Lately, to reduce storage space, I'm going thru and converting nearly all of them to JPEGs. The only exceptions being files I have printed or plan to print, which is a small percentage of the total. I've found that converting these files to jpegs is surprisingly simple and quick.

Just start shooting jpeg only and get on with your life. You’ll thank me in the morning
