I always hear it from other photographers that they put their cameras in a safe spot packed away while driving to, and from, a location. here is a capture from the other day as I was driving home. just pulled the car over to the roadside and framed the shot. This was a ten shot pano. I turned to look over my shoulder, and the moon was rising. So I took another couple of shots. It pays to have the camera ready as much as safely possible. Enjoy.

I, too usually have mine on the front seat, though in a pelican case which still provides fairly quick access and is somewhat protected. (I once sent a camera flying to the floor during a quick stop)

When I do carry my camera loose in the car it's in the front seat with the strap around the center fold down armrest, just in case of the need for a quick stop.

Beautiful photos. I keep a camera in the trunk of my car in a padded bag for those times I need to stop!

First one is a really nice pano David- I like it. Me too- regarding a camera on the seat beside me... no, it's not strapped down or encumbered in any way. Yes, I've picked it up from the floor a dozen times, but realistically, how hard can a camera hit a carpeted floor that's only 20" or so distant and with minimal speed differential? Regardless, I have countless photos that would have been missed had I been fretful and anxious... Same goes for kayaking with cameras... or motorcycles or even backpacking... I'd rather have the photos... Good job David!!

I carry multiple cameras on a photo trip. One in the footwell on the passengers side. Nowhere to fall, immediately accessible. The other two in the back rolled up in a blanket.

Really nice shots, David--enjoyed.

My camera rides shotgun with me when I am alone, and handy sitting on the console when I am not.

Thanks. I just run the safety belt across it. Many times i have had a brief moment when some species of wildlife presents an op.
