I recently had my computer go down. The technicians at Staples failed to back up my files. They replaced my hard drive but did not clone the old one. I now have a copy of Picasa which has a small library of my pictures. When I start Picasa It starts to load pictures but after a short while it stops and closes. Can anyone help me reload the rest of my pictures to the Picasa I have on my computer or can I transfer pictures from Google Photos to picasa? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is Picasa still a working processor? I used it years ago, and I thought it was discontinued.

Yes. It's still available for download. I haven't found a need for anything fancier. It is no longer supported and has been replaced by Google Photos (I think that's the name).

Picasa is still available for download. Uninstall it from your computer, download a fresh copy, & do a fresh install.

Picasa does NOT store photos. Your photos are stored somewhere on a drive in your computer, for most a C or D drive. There are other drive options. I have a dedicated SSD for all my images.

I'd be happy to provide a malware free copy of Picasa from my Dropbox. If interested, please PM me with your email address. I'll then send you an invite to the download. I've done it for other "UHHers".

I looked on line, and Google states that it has been discontinued. They state that Google Photos is the current storage and editing program that they offer. It's not Lightroom or ON1, but is marginally OK, and doesn't take 30 minutes per photo.

I lost most of my Picasa's when I switched to PSE18. I did have several that had been uploaded to Google Photos and, thank goodness, I had made DVD's and print albums and prints. I'm now becoming a backup bug, making flash drives, print albums, and Dropbox.

You can add photos to Picasa by going to File->"Add Folder (or File) to Picasa"
There is also a File->Import

It is still functional. The only downside is one cannot email directly from Picasa. However, by exporting an image to a folder, say on the desktop, a workaround is to attach it using one's dedicated email program. That's always my method for emailing images.

Do not blame staples for not backing up your hard drive. That would be in you. What you need to do IMMEDIATELY is get a program and start backing up your system and data.

Carbonit is paid and includes the space on the cloud on their site.

You need a minimum of three backups One in the cloud one local and one somewhere else off-site.

Thanks for the excellent discussion on this still easy-to-use program. You can also load photos from Google Photos to your computer. Do you know if all your photos are on the new drive?

Most photos I edit in Lightroom take 1-2 minutes.
