Back when I was managing a group of civilian engineers for the Navy doing in-service engineering support for the S-3 Viking aircraft, one of my engineers was a young Vietnamese lady electrical engineer. She was a hard working and talented EE and a joy to work with. One day when she was a young girl, she found herself in a boat off of the coast of Vietnam with her family; she was one of the "boat people." She ended up in Oregon initially, where she got her BS in EE and then she made it to the Bay Area.

Thanks for the interesting story Dennis and your kind comments.
My college roommate who worked for the AID program during the war and later for the State Dept, was instrumental in getting people who worked for us out of Saigon in 1975. He was featured in the Hollywood movie "Last Plane Out" as the character Larry Roberts. One of the evacuees was a colonel in the ARVN. I wrote a letter recommending him for a job as a security guard at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland where he worked for 40 years. Each year he sent Gail and me a Christmas card and signed it "Lucky Luc".
