Two incidents from yesterday. A woman customer in Job Lot cut into the line at the register because she was in a wheelchair. She said that because she was disabled, she was entitled to do that. When the store disagreed, she called the police. The police agreed with the store.
An old man with a can shoved a teenager out of the way to cut in line. A store employee called the teenager to another register. The old man got furious. "I'm old, and I have a cane. You should wait on me first."
In case you haven't noticed, people are horrible.
Happy Thanksgiving. I'm so glad it will be just my son and me eating dinner - no fighting.

Some old folks are just grouches.
Some feel a false sense of entitlement.
Some are just fed up with all of the BS.
Some, like me, enjoy being old.
I’m appalled at how negative you hogs are! I find that 99% of the people I see every day are kind, courteous, and thoughtful. You all must be living in the wrong place. Try St. Petersburg, FL. There are a lot of people here with canes, walkers and electric carts and I have yet to see one of them ever try to take advantage of their disability. And once a week we have a pantry at our church where we prepare bag lunches and provide clothes, shoes, toiletries, etc. for the homeless. Last week we had 91 people come. Every one of them was gracious, appreciative and polite. Remember, be kind to strangers. You never know what kind of demons they are fighting. Jerry, instead of staying home with your son, go volunteer to serve a thanksgiving meal at a church or shelter. Then you will know what thanks giving means.
24 years ago, the day after having shunt surgery I went home from Stony Brook hospital.
Two days before Christmas so I needed to get some shopping done.
I had two large bloody, gooey, bandages on the sides of my head.
So off to Smith Haven Mall.
Every time I got on the back of the line people offered to get me a chair to sit and or being walked up to the front of the line.
I never cut the line just because I had surgery less then 24 hours earlier.
Some people feel so entitled.
I'm still a fairly young man, only been 87 since the first of the month. In those 87 years I have encountered old folks who believe that the world owes them something simply because they managed to live a long time. On the other hand, I have encountered young folks who act rudely and are disrespectful who seemingly resent your having lived for so long and using up their air. It's about even I guess.
World in a very sad state!

Just don't cut in line when you're having Thanksgiving dinner with your son. I wouldn't want him to call the police on you. Seriously I hope you guys have a great meal.
[quote=JBuckley]Many cashiers and store employees are paid just the minimum wages that
their state will allow by law.
The same thing goes for waiters and waitresses.
For some reason, restaurants are allowed to pay waiters below minimum wage.

Because the waits receive tips.
With their tips and below minimum wage pay it's supposed to come out to at least legal minimum wage.
Instead of allowing these people do a little better, the powers to be prefer they don't.
Respect can only be given, not taken.

Relying the kindness of strangers is not a reliable business plan.

If you have a minimum wage law it should apply to waiters too. And tip is a bad thing. They should simply charge more for the meal and pay the waiters their worth.
When I was in Japan and I left the tips they chased me and return the tips. They feel insulted because you give them tips.

But we don't live in Japan.
Politicians set the rules not businesses.
The tipping system can work in favor of waits if they take care of their customers.
A good wiat does why better than a straight paid server.
