If the design will allow, put a screw-in bolt on the top (with a rubber washer?), you have a monopod....
most likely would have to trim the bolt part to about 1/4 inch.
(They might be called hanger bolts.)

MerryTexan, I carry a mono-pod without a head as my walking stick when I do my walkabouts with my camera in hand. It collapses, making it convenient to bring along, and I keep it in the car.

I use it to push weeds and brush out of my way. It's great for moving those pesky thorny vines that like to grab my legs. It's handy for clearing leaves when I'm looking for small specimens to shoot. I even used it to prod and encourage a snake (harmless) to "seek its fortune elsewhere".

I've found the best part of walking with one is that I can use it to steady my camera, not mount it on it. I place my left hand on it at an elevation of the subject, like a wildflower, and then I rest the camera against the hand holding the "walking stick". I can lean the stick forward or back to help focus while the camera rests against my hand and the stick.

Yes, I also take my stick although it's about 6 foot long. They are also good for raking snakes out of the way.

You have a great husband to do all that for you!
I hope, voluntarily?

A beauty, MT! I use a Trek hiking pole. On trips alone up the mountains, I will use two.

That's a good use for the stick, tradio...thank goodness I haven't had to rake a snake yet!

I use a heavy duty monopod for a walking stick if I am not carrying a tripod!!
Not only does it help my balance it make a great attitude modifier
