Great shot. Saw an Apollo shot in person back in the early 70's. Extremely impressive.
Thank you gh, I never had the opportunity to see an Apollo, out of state....this was an awesome launch, no glitches and only a 40-minute delay.

Yes, This is a great shot... patiently taken ... my hat is off to you Blaster34... thank you for sharing this wonderful shot.
I was laying on my roof at night in then pitch black night, Leesburg Florida, and watched a shot that headed North... photographed in my memory. But as you point out ghbowser, the tragic part is that we did this in the 1970!! This is 50 y later and we are reproducing what was. SpaceX is at times being punished for being too good, Curse the FAA and NASA for their excessive old way caution.

Thank you dpullum...You are right, over 50 years late. As a young kid, I used to watch out our kitchen window from Kissimmee at the successes and 'failures' of the space program in the 50's. However, with SpaceX, ULA and NASA getting back into the swing, we have launches almost weekly...
Not being well versed in night photos, I just opened the shutter and let'er fly. I did use a different lens this time and after selecting my settings, taking a few practice shots before the launch, it was still hard to get an actual perspective (focusing). Lights along the river helped with focusing. However, with such calm water, I regret I didn't include MORE of the Indian River Lagoon in the photo, what a reflection that would have been....well, when going to photograph a night launch, you get one chance, one chance only unless you have multiple cameras and learn more each time
....Cheers

Artemis, NASA's 'return to the moon' rocket, made its maiden flight early this morning, launching at 0147 from KSC, Cape Canaveral, FL and it was quite a sight. At over 8 million pounds of thrust it really light up the night sky as well as the Indian River Lagoon. Wasn't sure what I was going to get with the massive boosters and main engines, the flames were massive. I closed the shutter at staging (147 seconds) since everyone was starting to leave and turning their lights on. This was taken from ~49 miles from the Cape. Cheers everyone and congrats to NASA.

Wonderful Image. Great Photography.
An intriguing image, particularly when the subject is explained. The use of negative space and a little bit of reflection make for a beautiful composition.
