Artemis, NASA's 'return to the moon' rocket, made its maiden flight early this morning, launching at 0147 from KSC, Cape Canaveral, FL and it was quite a sight. At over 8 million pounds of thrust it really light up the night sky as well as the Indian River Lagoon. Wasn't sure what I was going to get with the massive boosters and main engines, the flames were massive. I closed the shutter at staging (147 seconds) since everyone was starting to leave and turning their lights on. This was taken from ~49 miles from the Cape. Cheers everyone and congrats to NASA.

WOW! I thought that was yet to happen it's easy to get confused about the time of things here, being a different day. I wish I could have been there to see that the best thing I have seen is a starlink deployment string a couple years ago.

Great shot. Saw an Apollo shot in person back in the early 70's. Extremely impressive.

Yes, This is a great shot... patiently taken ... my hat is off to you Blaster34... thank you for sharing this wonderful shot.

I was laying on my roof at night in then pitch black night, Leesburg Florida, and watched a shot that headed North... photographed in my memory. But as you point out ghbowser, the tragic part is that we did this in the 1970!! This is 50 y later and we are reproducing what was. SpaceX is at times being punished for being too good, Curse the FAA and NASA for their excessive old way caution.

Thank you alawry, it was a beautiful sight. I would have loved to see this launch in the daytime. SpaceX has had 47 launches this year alone and the activity at the Cape has been basically non-stop this year....great for viewing, great for the space program.
