A few from this last week. Also not intentional but a necessity out here in the Northwest (I also like to keep my ISO as low as possible). These were taken mid-morning; the sun had not come up over the hill; and the frost was still on them from the night before.

Sweet sculptures - frosted

These are beautiful! (Understatement). Thank you for posting

"Burning steel wool?" OK, now I am really starting to feel old....

What do you mean by that, Pat?

A wad of steel wool on a long "string", in darkness and with long exposure, twirl it around. I'm not allowed to put a link here, but google "Burning Steel Wool Photography" and you'll see images and some how to articles. Fascinating.

Thanks so much, Pat. As you know, I've been kind of pre-occupied with
other matters and just haven't had the desire or incentive to get out
and about with my camera. And, truthfully, with winter around the corner
(unless you got hammered with the recent lake effect snow), I'm not
sure when I'll get motivated again, although challenges like this help.

It only takes one or to images to get you going again...

Pat, I like the iPhone images, but that first image blows me away. I don't
know why, but it reminded me of something I'd see in a magical place,
you know, like Fantasyland or something along those lines...almost
whimsical...but gorgeous!

Thanks so much Tim

Quite the finale, Pat. Challenge wouldn't have been
complete without a Maine Lite!

P. 31 Not surprising but all your pictures are outstanding. I particularly like #s 2 and 3.

Thanks Lee, #2 is Bridal Veil Creek in Columbia River Gorge, and #3 is the upper part of Athabasca Falls near Jasper in the Canadian Rockies. The sun is behind the mountain just before sunrise.

A few weeks ago we did a "Stop the Action" challenge. This challenge is the opposite - using a slow shutter speed to create movement. The technique is frequently seen as "velvet water" but includes other photographic techniques such as light trails. If you have iPhone 6S or later you have the ability to produce long exposure "velvet" motion (I'll demonstrate during the challenge for those who may not be aware of the feature). As always, its a combination of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed that produces the effect. Tripods work best for shutter speeds longer than 1/60 (some can do 1/30). Bracing yourself and or the camera against a stable surface can sometimes be sufficient, but results may not be the best.

So, let's see some slow shutter motion
