The "Challenger" 3985, 5511, and diesel 6936 are being donated by the UPRR to the non - profit Railroading Heritage of Midwest America.
They will be moving from Cheyenne WY this Friday and end up in Silvis Illinois later this month.
I had the privilege of riding in the cab of the 3985 from Cheyenne to Denver Colorado several years ago, for the Frontier Days special. Sad to see it leave Cheyenne but UPRR is downsizing its fleet of old steam engines and concentrating on the 844 and the "Big Boy" 4014.
Hope you are able to see these when they move to their new home.
I went to the yard today, while they were preparing them for the move, thought I would take a few shots since I most likely will not see them again.
The "Challenger" 3985, 5511, and diesel ... (show quote)

Those are great photos! I have the schedule and plan to see them along the way!

Great photos. It is said that "necessity is the mother of invention". UPRR's need for power is
clearly represented in the development of the locomotives in your photos.
