Yes, interested, but sub-sections not needed. The title of the post should be sufficient.

I expressed the same interest several years ago. My travels are all about photography and I would like to see a group focused on destinations, best timing tips, equipment, etc. And examples!

Most definitely, especially how to travel with film cameras and accessories. Visiting my daughter in Idaho at Thanksgiving. Plan to send film and kits by Fedex early to avoid TSA issues.

That would be a great idea and would certainly be a welcome home for all of the vacation snapshots that sometimes overwhelm the main gallery section.

I would be most interested. I like Jerry's comment about 'foreign' and 'domestic'. For me, I've been fortunate to travel to Europe 16 times. Now it is time to do some traveling here. So I'm sitting with a lot of hints for foreign. I'll also be watching for domestic, for that will my future until after Covid is in better control.

To all

Is there any interest in a travel section on UHH? I approached admin some time ago about it but life got in the way. I'd consider rekindling the interest if there was someone who wanted to co-admin the thing.

I envision a section that has tips, where to photography, what to take, etc...

Thoughts?

Some thoughts on getting a new section ... Many months ago, I lobbied admin for a "Birds" Section, as the number of bird photos was overwhelming the "Photo Gallery" section. Admin agreed and put up a new "Birds" section...thank you, Admin. I also lobbied Admin for a "Flowers" section for the same reason, but no word or no action from Admin on a "Flowers" section. I don't know what criteria Admin uses when creating a new section, but it never hurts to ask.

Admin subscribed the entire UHH membership to "Birds" and he (who is the owner also) manages it.

Specialty sections are managed by volunteers. There are 35 or more of those sections and fewer than 10 that Admin handles personally. Except for Nekked Ladies and Attic-Sewer, those are the original sections from 2011.

The volunteer-managed sections are invisible to casual users because you must specifically subscribe if you want them in your "newest topics" link, or digest.

In my humble opinion, there are enough sections already.
For those using the "newest topics" link, the number of sections is irrelevant. Unlike the digest, "Newest Topics" combines all your subscribed sections into a single handy list, which is up-to-the minute topics posted in date/time order. The Digest is "yesterday's news" and a mere sampling, mostly dictated by popularity

There's not much to "admin" in these types of sections. The main effort is to define the purpose of the section, in writing. There's likely not any controversy inherent to a travel section that would require policing the posts / members. Encourage "travel" images too, in the posted content, not just where to go / what to take questions.

I admin the photo critique section now. You are right, it is easy when I’m around. I was thinking this section could encompass more than the usual what lens to take stiff. Shooting environments, places to not miss, possibly recommendations of guides, etc. it could get a bit more involved.

I’ll ponder.

I enjoy seeing the travel pictures.
It is my only way of traveling.

Photographers know how to get the pictures. Travel articles don't.

I think so much depends on each traveler's interests. What some people like and shot may be way different.
As for what lenses to take, again, that depends on their style of shooting also. People should really get to know their lenses and what they provide in terms of coverage.
They should have some idea of what may be at the destination like wide vistas, narrow streets, mountains, valleys, and such. If not, research it. There's a ton of information on the net about places, including many Google images, albeit mainly from main roads, but a lot of people have posted images from places not on the main road. Also one can simply Google "what to see in <city>". Smaller towns may be a bit shy on information on the net though. Then one can figure out what they want to see/photograph.
And of course for the occasional "trip", one could always ask here under "General Photography Discussion". I don't see a ton of that. It seems to go in spurts. Many people here display images of their travels in The Gallery.

Actually that all sounds like good reasons to endorse the section.

In response to th OP's post, I would definitely subscribe to a travel section. My wife and I are always looking for places to get out to for a week or a long weekend and I would very much be interested in what other hoggers found both appealing and disappointing about a location.

I would subscribe to a "Travel Section" if there was one. Quite often people ask questions regarding travel to a certain location and there will be a response that has information about something I did not know existed or was available. One such recent post by UTMike was about Dead Horse Point and the yurts that are available there for camping ( https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-711364-1.html ) which I was not aware of before reading his post.

Sure, people may still ask questions like this in the Main Photography section, and will probably continue to do so. But, a travel section could be worthwhile by having that info located in a section that is dedicated to travel.
I would subscribe to a "Travel Section" ... (show quote)

I would join a TRAVEL SECTION ON UHH. We would very much like and visit this site every day like we do visiting the 10 to 12 sites we subscribe to.
