Abe's has about the worst reputation in the industry. Yes, their prices are lower, but you will still get much less than you paid for.

If you don't like what ChgCanon says, don't read his posts. I have found his posts extremely helpful and certainly hope he keeps on with his informative views and comments in his posts.

There are people whose posts I do not read. I too have found a lot of ChgCanon's post very helpful. He is very knowledgeable about Canon products, taking photos, and post processing. I have even enjoyed and laughed loudly at a lot of his one-liners and quips. It just seems lately that he has gone a different direction, or I have missed something. I have noticed that a few others do not follow his intent lately either. That's all. Ok. I'm done. Moving on.

When I first posted here, I came to learn that Paul Sager is very intuitive about cameras and all that is photography. His recent comment of Abe’s of Maine has went truly south. Granted, their prices are extremely low but they are never honest with those who wish to purchase a nice camera. People do not want to get taken for a ride.
So I wish to ask CHG_CANON if he fell off the hay ride cart? If so, a good cigar and a snoot full of single malt whiskey can put him on the right track. It works for me!! If you’re bored of Chicago come over to New York City for some real fun.
Adorama is reputable. Use Abes of Maine for any grey market equipment.

Adorama and B&H also sell grey market, but they let you know up front. No need to buy grey market from a scam outfit.
Abe's of Maine has had a less-than-stellar reputation for as long as I can remember. My first encounter with them was for a Nikon FE2 right after its introduction in 1983. They had among the lowest price around, but there were grumblings among the Popular Photography and Modern Photography readers. The complaints never seemed to reach critical mass and got aired in the magazines; but even before the internet, photographers talked among each other. Things like neck straps, batteries, user guides, etc, were missing from packaging. If one called, the usual tenor was "if you wanted those items, they're extra".
There were several other New York discount houses which used the same "bait and switch". Fortunately, I settled on B&H, Adorama, and a couple of others, and I've never been sorry.

I seem to remember that either Popular or Modern or both finally cracked down the shoddy practices and set up guidelines. I believe Herb Kepler wrote a piece about it. Maybe Ed of Canada remembers something about this.

I remember Herb's commentary! He was right to call out the shadier dealers.

Based upon what I have read here, I am staying as far away from Abe’s. I do wish they get a map and find out they’re in New Jersey. I seriously doubt they will be on the same caliber of a store as ADORAMA or B&H!! I am another satisfied customer and will always be. I also enjoy the candy dishes spread around the store for free samples.
