Old Haunts, New Camera.
The Olympus Pen E-P7 has become my new "compact" camera. It has a 12-32mm lens and when fitted to the camera the two together can fit inside my fleece pocket. I took it for a trial run today round some old haunts. The controls are a bit different from what I'm used to but image-wise I'm pleased so far. The real test will come when I shoot in low light conditions, but I know not to expect too much from a pocketable camera.

The original colours were weird, probably because of LED lights plus P&S (not the Pen). The coffee mug's for scale :-).

The last shot makes the bold statement visually. The Olympus Pen E-P7 has become R.G.'s new "compact" camera... that is a practical move for R.G. to make.
Old saying, "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." That describes compact cameras. New saying, "A compact camera in the pocket is with two DSLR in the closet." Compacts in the pocket are there when the photo occasion arises.
Lots of positive features squeezed into an excellent compact... "The Olympus PEN E-P7 is a rangefinder-style Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera with a 20MP sensor and 5-axis in-body image stabilization."

Bold statement?
I wasn't quite seeing it that way, but since you mention it, I wonder if it'll make the Tate Modern

When a once-in-a-lifetime chance comes along, the camera in your hand/pocket is priceless and worth way more than a cupboard full of DSLRs.
The usual must-haves are all there and the controls are a bit different from what I'm used to, but nothing I can't get used to. Thanks for commenting.

Nah, that's just the locals suffering from the cold

Actually I quite like my Pen the way it is
. If I ever get the urge to experiment with cameras I think I'll find something older (and cheaper).
Talking about lenses, it occurred to me that while you wouldn't get a camera plus telephoto lens in your pocket, what you could have is camera plus pancake zoom in one pocket and telephoto lens in another pocket. Come to think of it, that's exactly what I saw minniev do when I met her (although it was more of a standard zoom with reach if I remember right). It's easy to underestimate lenses when you see them fit snugly into someone's hand.
I like the depth of field and the composition of the first photo.
What a fun set. I really like No. 2. Calm, quiet beach with all kinds of activity at sea. Do you know what the small boats are.
Your test seem to verify your purchase. Have many many clicks with your new friend.😀

Thank you Gaylord. DOF is where m4/3 excels.

Thank you Jack. The "small" boats are offshore support vessels. I think it must be their shape, but when you see them from a distance they don't look particularly big until you stand along side them at the docks, at which point they look huge. The wind farm that you can see is the one that got Donald Trump annoyed because they're within sight of his new golf course and he was given reassurance that the planned wind farm wouldn't be built.

Thank you Frank. I'm sure we'll manage to spend many happy hours together

Insanity prevails... while my Panasonic self contained does does wonders as IR, i see a E-PL3 +M.Zuiko 40-150mm for $140 US. RG please buy it quickly so it will be gone when I decide mid week.
I had best wait til the passion subsides and reality sets in... how many different cameras do I need...
