I have an iPhone 8s that is running iOS 15.7 and is eligible to update to iOS 16. Has anyone with a similar vintage iPhone done the update, and if you have are you happy with it?
Thanks in advance,
Bill
Don't think it is available yet
When I check for updates my phone show it to be available. Also, on the Apple web site the upgrade is listed. My concern is that without comments there are a number if questions about how to revert to iOS 15.xx.

Did it on SE 2020. Absolutely no problem

Early reports are that some users are having a few problems, but most are just trying to get used to the new software.
As with EVERY software update or upgrade, early adopters always have the most problems. I've learned to wait until xx.2 or xx.3 before upgrading to a new version of any operating system. Most of the bugs and awkward user interface issues are gone by version xx.2, and versions after that are really stable (just like iOS 15.7).
If you already have a complete backup of your entire phone, and you just can't wait, proceed. But be sure you can restore that backup!

It is available and I have installed it on my iPhone 13.
If my iPhone 8 is running okay, and it always has, I don't update the ios unless its a security update.
ios 16 says stuff about a redesigned Lock Screen etc. No mention of security, so my advice is leave it till they have all the bugs out in a week or so, maybe longer.
My mantra is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
Cheers

MANY security fixes never get mentioned unless you seek them out on Apple's web site. They tend to mention the urgent fixes, not the ones no one has exploited yet.
Thank you Schoee and Bill, I too tend to wait at least a couple of weeks after a major iOS release before jumping in. Tony, you might not be able to see what's broke down deep in the innards of the operating system and updates may be plugging holes that hackers have discovered or missed. I am concerned about changes made to the lock screen and/or home screen along with other functions. I'm getting old and changes are becoming more difficult.

Well Ive been using an iPhone since around 2008 and its always worked for me. Never been hacked and I only replace my phone when either the battery gives up or it no longer qualifies for the latest ios.
My wife and I both have an iphone, they are the only phones we have now as most of our friends and business or hospital contacts, everyone really, now only use mobile phones.New Zealand has very good mobile coverage and as copper has been replaced by fibre, landlines as such are virtually redundant now.
burkphoto: Any major hacks or problems are usually well covered in our National media so am not really concerned.

Thanks Shoee. Yeah got that one about a week ago and both phones done. All good. Cheers.
I haven't update yet. Like some others have said I usually wait awhile to let the dust settle before going to the next IOS update. My thoughts are it shouldn't be a problem for you. Just make sure you have enough phone storeage for the download. You'll need a total of about 5GB of free space on your phone to download and install the update. To see how much free space your phone has right now, open the Settings app, tap General, and select iPhone Storage.
On another note as the Mgr of the Smartphone Photography section I would like to personally invite you and everyone else here that hasn't done so, to Subscribe to the " Smartphone Photography" section. Aside from posting your Smartphone images there, it's a place to discuss apps, how to's etc. Hope to see you there.

I got a message that I am eligible for and up grade on my Kyocera the other day, so I checked with the phone store and online ratings on the newer versions, very few if any were good, almost twice the price and half as sturdy as my old phone, But its 5G and can do all of this, what is all of this? can it get me better service? NO is the screen as tough No.
So what am I getting? Screwed and no kiss!!
