OMDS moving on with the Olympus sprit

OMDS is discontinuing E-M1 mkIII and E-M5 mkIII. Of course they are being replaced by OM-1 and OM-5. A new lens will be released with the OM-5 release in October. Everyone thought it was going to be the new macro lens, but it will not be the macro. The actual macro release date has not been announced, but it will be a true macro lens. The 90mm f3.5 Pro IS lens will be a 4X lifesize macro lens in 35mm terms. And I thought it was going to be a 2X lifesize macro - silly me. Size, weight, and cost have not been released yet. It looks like OMDS is moving forward with the former Olympus people and their sprit.

Do you know what OMDS’ plans are for the EM1X?

No, but it is likely they will review sales before making a decision. OM-1 does have Artificial Intelligence like the E-M1X and many other features. They may choose to upgrade and rename the E-M1X beyond the OM-1. But it has not been announced that it will be discontinued. My bet is they will continue the E-M1X in an upgrade.

No one knows for sure what OMDS is going to do with the E-M1X. They may issue a firmware upgrade to match or exceed the OM-1, come out with a E-M1X mark 2 or let it slowly fade away. Not sure how OMDS would position a new E-M1X as a new flagship camera compared to the OM-1 "WOW" camera. I don't think they need two flagship cameras for action/wildlife/BIF and I thought the size of the E-M1X body makes it unwieldy for most everyday use.

I can see the upcoming OM-5 as being a more video orientated camera to market towards the vlog/influencer community. Sony (ZV-E10), Canon (R10) and Nikon (Z30) have released gear for the vlogging community, so OMDS may follow.

Looking forward to seeing what OMDS has coming this year. The OM-5 sounds like it may be a good backup camera to my OM-1 (may use same battery so could be larger than my E-M5ii) and I am very interested in the 90mm macro.

The revised lens roadmap shows a pair of PRO zooms roughly 40mm (+/-) to 150mm (+/-). One may be an updated version of the 40-150 f2.8 PRO, the other 50-200?

They just update it and call it OM-X.

The EM1X did not get a firmware upgrade with the UI features that were added to the EM1iii. Which really disappointed me. I figured it was a dead end, and I sold mine when I got the OM1. I also sold my E-M1ii's, since they didn't get updated either.

I can't imagine the EM1X getting an update; the whole concept that a big body was needed to get the processing power for computational photography went out the window with the OM1.

My guess is that the E-M1X was a testbed for higher prices, camera body size acceptance among Olympus users and new analytics for future use. It also let them use up their existing stock of older generation chipsets, EVFs and batteries.
I balked at the higher price and body size, especially with the EVF lacking the better resolution many of us wanted. I've got over the sticker shock with cameras coming onto the market now. I bought an OM-1 and a 150-400mm f4.5 in the past year.

I am much happier with the 150-400 f4.5 than I was with the 300mm f2.8 (which was about $8000 back in 2003). It is an awesome birding lens.

I still have the 300mm f4.0. It's an excellent lens but hasn't had any use since getting the 150-400.

Agree with all of the above. The 150-400 is the one lens to rule them all.

It takes time. Took 11 months for me. I'm still waiting for my "free" battery from the OM1 pre-sale.

But it's a widespread problem. I pity the folks that want a Nikon Z9.

Yup. I ordered the day it was announced. Still took quite a while to get one.

Well worth the wait, though
