So sad to hear of the passing of the great Queen Elizabeth of the Commonwealth Realms, a true legend that will go down in history as perhaps the United Kingdom's greatest ruler ever, certainly its most beloved throughout the British Commonwealth around the world. Here is a shot I made of then Prince Charles (now King Charles) and wife Camilla. I had to wear a tux to be this close to them. All the best to the new King Charles. Canon EOS 1DX, 24-70mm lens, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/250 sec. with on-camera flash .
The queen's passing sadly marks the end of an era.
And Charles I was beheaded; Charles II (after escaping a similar fate and returning from exile) is generally judged poorly by historians for his duplicity, self-indulgence, poor judgement and lack of an aptitude for business or for stable and trustworthy government, not to mention his licentious lifestyle. This Stuart regnal name disappeared for over 300 years. We shall have to see what lies ahead for Charles III and the monarchy.

Yes ... the end of an era ... but quite the opposite of sad.
The real Elizabeth died in 2018.
London bridge is falling down.
Enslavement of their own people and the world, shall be no more.
RIP our wonderful Queen, you’ll be sadly missed.

It won't be the same under Charles. Many people over there and elsewhere feel no affection toward him, and the way he treated Diana will never be forgotten. I've never really understood the monarchy, but I have to say that this is a very sad day indeed. To quote my wife, "The last vestige of civility just died."
It was a marriage that did not work. So what.
The end of a great Queen. Now a King, who at the time of writing this has been King for fewer than 24 hours, has to meet a Prime Minister who has been in office for fewer than 72 hours.

I Concur . . . . .
A rare leader today that really cared for the people in her country. RIP.
She was a classy person and was the Queen for most of our lives, or all of our lives. She will be missed by many around the world.

Didn't British colonialism end during her lifetime, and isn't the "Commonwealth" symbolic at this point? The Queen herself was a symbolic leader and had no actual decision making power. She was not responsible for her country's "sins." There are many arguments against having a monarchy, but if the British people want to maintain it, that's up to them.
I totally agree with you. Up to the Brits whether they want a monarchy.
