Usually the comments are Negative or they find some little fault with Anything. Especially with certain brands. Don’t understand.

Some people just enjoy the sound of their own voice, even if it's only in print. Kind of like me right now

Others may feel they are making valuable contributions.

Still others are so used to finding the negative in everything, it is simply a way of life. Kind of like sarcasm. Or ridicule.

Arguing about cameras makes fools of all participants.

Noooo. These threads are just part of the social lives of us elderly folk, replacing the pot belly stove down at the Mercantile - but without a spittoon

You'll find out soon enough, Paul.

Simply because they don't like some attributes/characteristics of the camera.

They wouldn't want a camera that has that or doesn't do something they like/want.

If you're talking about people here who do that, read the previous comments.

If you're talking about people who do it on other sites and actually review the camera, many of them are either given or lent the camera they review with the intent that they will put the camera through its paces and write an honest review about it. I used to listen to one (now defunct) podcast where they made it a point that they always bought the cameras and lenses they reviewed so they could give an honest, unbiased critique. They would then have a digital drawing to give their equipment away. They would tell you whether or not the camera, lens, bag, whatever was worth it.

Typically, these are people who are obsessed with reading camera reviews and studying camera specs, rather than actually using their equipment and taking pictures. Their interest is generally focused on the technology, not the art of photography. And they are very opinionated about the technology.

I suppose a few people may have owned or used said camera before and found it wanting. There's no end of this type of discussion on the guitar forums I belong to. After a while, you get to know some peoples' personal predilections (how they like a thick nut, bone saddles, flat-wound strings, and the like). Sometimes it's useful for comparison, but if you don't know the person's background or experience, much of it is chaff and not wheat.

Interesting observation. I don't think there's much to understand; Some who spend a few thousand dollars need a brand to be beneath theres.

I always differentiate personal experience from what I've read when making comments about cameras and other equipment. I can make comments from personal experience on Nikon and Canon cameras and lenses that I've used, and I always say they're from personal experience. Sometimes I post pictures to make a point. I can tell you why I'd buy or not buy something else based on features and performance that are reported and make it clear that I don't own it. I think I'm pretty careful about that.

Sometimes it is from owning one in the past, using a friend's or trying one in a store. Then there are those like myself who will go do research on the camera in the various reviews by different sites or photographers they trust.

But sadly, other times it is just because they cannot resist putting in their 2 cents worth.

And sometimes they're not nice about it. "You're just an idiot for buying a Nikon. Don't you know that Canon is better? Why do they let idiots like you be on this forum?!!!" Then it starts.

It's your money. It's your decision. If you let the UHH community spend your money, nothing you have will ever be good enough to their standards.

(And they'll spend as much as they like.)
