A rare late morning wildlife drive. At least in the summer, but it was overcast most of the day so not too hot. The GBH with the turtle is known as Crooked Neck, well known by the regulars on the wildlife drive. First time we have seen a GBH with a Turtle! Yes, he did get it down, poor little Turtle!
I think the star of the show is the Merlin, female, I think. Best photos by far of a Merlin for us!
I hope you like!

Great set of photos Chief. Love the GBH with the small turtle that is going to have a very bad day. Probably doesn't have to worry about which end to swallow first.

Great series, especially the heron trying the small turtle.

Thanks, Hereford. No, it looks like the little guy is slightly oval but not enough to make much difference going down. I know the GBH turned him upside down, then back right side up and around at least a couple times before swallowing him. I don't know how long he had been working at it before we came upon the scene. But it went down pretty easily once it got started. I hope stomach acid is strong enough to take care of the shell eventually or Crooked Neck will be in trouble!
