George, This is quite handy, looks well built, and at a fair price. You have found a good solution to preventing minute movements of the camera due to an overhung load. When supporting a long lens without a lens mount, the fulcrum point is at the base of the camera. The end of the lens, and any attachments, may be several inches to more than a foot away from the anchor point. Gravity will pull the lens downward and the length of the lens will act as a lever, much like using a long crowbar to pull out a nail.

When doing macro or micro, the smallest movement is magnified which affects the quality of the image taken for vibration and movement are not a macro photographer's friend.
