Just because cats are more independent than dogs, it doesn't make them any less of a pet!

Exactly. In fact, it’s one of the things I particularly like about them. I love to watch cats, the way they move and the way they hunt - their athletics. It’s not learned, they’re born knowing. We’ve had five Abyssinians over the years, and they’re mostly pretty laid back - maybe F5s if an FI is wild and F5-F6 is completely domesticated. Lily, our current 3 year old Abby is about an F3. Very, very loving, but with a streak of wild. Hunts all night (oh please let me find a mouse), loves to play games (will fetch) and is VERY athletic, but will sleep with you and spend time in your lap - an interesting mix.

I've had both cats and dogs. Here is another difference. When I go for a walk on my property, the dogs will follow me, but the cats just happen to be going where I'm going. Its a subtle but distinct difference.

Even a little kitty will go "full monster" on you if you try to force it to swallow a pill! I have the scars to prove it. We usually put the pill in some tasty tuna or other food...

Yes they are independent and do show emotion towards their owners!
