I finally had obtained a reasonable picture of the full moon this month. I found that the right side and closer to the edge was very sharp. Then kinda faded towards the center.
Here is what I used and set for the full moon;
Canon 80D with Tamron 70-300 USD VC
1/250 @ F8
ISO 800

I post processed with ON1 2022.5 and used No Noise and at the end I did a Resize.

Not bad .., pages 1-5 yielded some great info as well as the 100 year old tradition of continuous posting of moon shots .., and by the way .., I love moon shots .. can’t get enough of them ..that being said .., there is no doubt that stacking from stills pulled from videos works really well ..,and of course using a telescope and getting 8000mm + .., doesn’t hurt either ..,and let’s say that you can’t compete with a telescope shot … most of use use our cameras and a zoom or fixed lens 300mm-600mm and we get it seems pretty good shots ..

I have come up with some hand held D7200 and an inexpensive 200-500mm 5.6 which
I consider to be pretty good .. note the EXIF data on the full moon .., have you ever seen settings like that on a moon shot …ISO 3200 …, Shutter Speed 8,000 …. And look at the 1/2 moon shots EXIF Data ..ISO 1600 ..Shutter Speed 2000 … ridiculous .. but it goes to show you that other settings can bypass the “Looney 11 Rule” .. “Sunny 16 Rule” .. start with ISO 100 as most suggest …and so on …I’m using a $500 camera and a $1,000 lens .. no tripod that combo gives me 750mm …

You just have to experiment with the set up you have ., yes a tripod and electronic release …and ok ISO 100 + to start …like I did in the beginning … and after years of practice .. I just see a full or partial moon and swing the camera around and shot it …no bracing either .. I guess I’m lucky …

I have a new technique I’m going to be using when I’m in SF/Mendocino in October ..,using my D850 …let’s see if I can better myself .., Meanwhile our old Hog buddy “REGIS” still holds the hand held clearest moon shot full.., partial or otherwise posted on this sight without a telescope IMHO , …boy he was good ..

In closing .., I don’t count telescope shots as being in the same category as strictly DSLR and LENS .., they are two different animals …IMHO ….

I shoot most of Moon shots at f/9 or f/10, 1/320 sec. ISO 200 or 100, and always shoot handheld with my D500 and D7500 with the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary Lens. Works for me.

Always good stuff from you .., Your moons are great ….

Thnx ..,😎….BTW .., the EXIF data date and time reflect when I edited the shots …not the actual time/date when the shot was taken ,…

My recipe is:
a) use a very long lens (I use a 400mm mirror lens)
b) compose with an interesting foreground
c) Take, at least, two shots: one where the moon is well exposed and another where the foreground is well exposed
d) Combine both shots on post.

Just see this example:

The moon seems quite overexposed.....

Yep .. the moon eludes so many who try to capture it be it full or partial.., some use a telescope and camera attachment (cheating) IMHO , …and some of the best were video and then stacked .. a great effect by Ballard .., Regis on this blog did wonders hand held with a Canon and an 800mm lens ..,

I usually start out with the tripod .., electronic trigger .., curtain up .. and f11 and bring it down while ISO 100-250 as a general rule my speed 400-3000 for-me ..it depends on your camera and lens combo … you’ll have to experiment…

Auto focus .., we’ll , On my equipment D7200 or D850 .. it can’t be beat …

I have attached a simple Shot of the moon taken with my D7200 and a 200-500 mm 5.6 lens pumped up to 1,000mm .., tripod , no electronic trigger nor mirror up …and you can see a used $600 camera and a now $1,000 lens can take a good shot …

Cropping was done as well as post editing …
