This Great Horned Owl was flushed from a large cottonwood tree with
a Western Kingbird close on its tail. It landed on the owls back and
was pecking at the owl's head. The owl flew to another tree after the
Kingbird departed the owls back.

Excellent set

Nice capture. The owl's lucky the attacker wasn't a woodpecker.😁

Thank you Jerry. It looks like the Kingbird got in a couple of good hits
on the head.

Thank you Craig for taking a look. This was such a quick burst of shots
I was lucky to get a few in focus.

Maybe, but you had the settings set right for the moment. I can relate to hoping for good focus and discovering more during editing after a frantic burst, too!

Those Western Kingbirds are an aggressive bunch. Great series and I’ll bet was really fun to see and capture.

Thank you Craig. I shoot manual and use auto/ISO. I also use a
very low, high ISO setting. FX - 1250, DX - 800. I usually try to
get a ISO of 500 or less.

Thank you Nalu. The Kingbirds can be very noisy, worth a look to see what
they are up to. The burst itself was only a second or two. While looking thru
the view finder while shooting I do remember a green in-focus indicator on.
After downloading I saw what I really had.
