look at it in a realistic way , people have more options, now you have film, mirror less & dslr, large format, medium format, of course phones, all depend on your preference & skill !
This year, something like 30% of their camera sales came from DSLRs, so I don’t see Nikon in a hurry to lose that DSLR revenue. DSLR production and sales will continue. However as revenue continues to decrease on the DLSRs, there will come a point beyond which it won’t be profitable to produce them.
Not a good thing nor a bad thing for the consumers. It's something manufacturers have to do to survive. It's only a bad thing for people who feel bad because their cameras are now out of fashion.

Mind you, some of the biggest car manufacturers in the world are ceasing production of petrol/diesel fueled cars and going to full electric propulsion. Canon and Nikon have been around for over 100 years I think and maybe they can see the writing on the wall. Some people call it progress
