Yup, thereby the amount of sunlight that goes through more or less atmosphere, the relative intensity.
Directly overhead is the most, sunset the least.

Sounds about right! The trick is to get the calculations right, and not get there at noon! Also, they should go to the Northern Hemisphere in winter, when the nights are longer!!!
