Time to buy a decent brand name card such as SanDisk or Lexar or Transcend. BE SURE to format it with the exact camera you will use it in. This ensures that any special files the camera needs to run its operating system get loaded onto the card before you use it.

You didn't say if the PC and card reader could write/format the card so maybe you should be sure you haven't accidentally moved the cards lock switch to 'lock'

Actually that was the first thing I checked in the field when it happened - I even locked then unlocked it and reinserted it but no luck

Darn...that would have been such an easy fix.

Copy the data to your computer. After buying and formatting and successfully testing a new card in your camera, do one of the following:

Duct tape it to your car tire and drive around the block. This won't fix the card, but will ensure no one else wastes time trying to fix it, either!

Soak it in a shallow bowl of chocolate milk placed in the sun. Then mix four ounces of Sangria with one ounce of Everclear. Drink the latter. That might make you feel better (or not!) about the card not working, as you clean up the mess.

Duct tape the card to the face of a sledge hammer. Break a brick with the combination while growling horribly. The card and the brick won't work again, but nearby kids will laugh or be terrified!

In the end, it is time to buy a new card and discard the old one. New cards are about half the cost of a roll of Ektachrome 100 slide film and processing, which yeilds probably 6 to 10 decent slides.

Sound advice from the Triad region of No Cack! I think I'll find me an old(ish) card and opt for fix #2. (I'd opt for #1 but, you know, the gas thing... and the fact there will be enough "ijits" on the road without some old far.. er, "classic" person driving around with a SD card taped to his "tar")

Esse Quam Videre = No Cack. Our state motto, translated from Latin, is “To BE, rather than to SEEM.”

I translate “no cack” as “no BS.” I never did like “North Cackalacky.” But somehow, “SOUTH Cackalacky” was very fitting when I lived there in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

I have the d500 too and find it is sensitive to the card used. I bought a ritz cfe card for a really good price. It did not work in the slot and I got error messages. The same with the as slot. I bought some no name cheap cards and got error messages. They work fine in my d7200. Contacted Nikon and was told they are not on the approved list and I needed to get cards approved before the could determine if there was something wrong. Got new recommended cards and needless to say I haven’t contacted Nikon about the problem again

Good luck with the issue. Hope it is something as simple as the card.

Well if you were there in the 70’s they may have *some* of the road construction that was started then done by now. Construction around Raleigh kinda reminds me of 2 kids in a sand box with Tonka trucks. (Move stuff around with no real thought until it’s time to go inside, then start again later.
I’m sure there is a plan, but..)
As to No Cack, I had a patient that was raised in SC and he used it extensively. I drag it out every once and a while in remembrance.

At least we have roads here. Ever take I-95 through SC on the way to Fl? That’s a lot of cack!

Oddly, I had a Sandisk card do that just a month or so ago. The computer read the data from the card just fine. Put the card back in the camera--nothing. Purchased a new card from B and H for about $20. Problem solved.

In my Nikon D500 the camera gave me CArd err also said camera didn’t recognize card insert another. I removed card and cleaned it with dry cloth and reinstalled card several times to no avail. My PC and card reader are fine with card. So I downloaded card onto PC then tried to format card in camera and again got the error message. The card is at least 2 years old with 1000s of photos taken, downloaded and then formatted. Any ideas for failure or fixes? Card is a 64 gig

Funny, I also had the same thing happen with my SanDisk 64 in my D750. It worked fine for months then suddenly went south. Works in my PC as well and formats fine but won't work in the camera. I'm not taking any chances with it in another camera or even the PC.

Threw it out and am done with it.

Duct taping it to the tire would probably be littering. In my area littering is punishable by a $219 fine. Not sure how they came up with that number.

If you attach it to a maul and break bricks, be sure to wear eye protection.

Personally I would just put it in a vise and get my drill out and make some 1/4 holes. Well, maybe some 7/32 holes. That's a drill size I don't use much so it will probably be sharp. When you're done, just tighten the vise a bit more.

You know the old saying. "You get what you pay for." I never use anything but San-Disk cards in my cameras.
