Is the R7 available right now? Tried getting it on pre order but couldn’t, from Canon.

Yes it is.
Saw something this morning.
No I didn't really pay attention to who but it was in the USA.

I don’t understand why. When a a person spends substantial money for an important (to them) item, I would expect them to believe in its virtues, or else why would they have bought it in the first place? Owners should take pride in the nice possessions they have worked hard to purchase - men (and probably women although I can’t speak for them) do it all the time, whether it’s an automobile, a house, a firearm, a camera or… Haven’t you ever bought something and praised its virtues? I certainly have - it’s called pride of ownership.

A camera is a camera, one camera company isn't that much better than another, sure a person should have pride of ownership, but not to the point of acting like 10 year olds!

If you're going to engage in a childish discussion of brands or camera format, you can't then say it's childish.

What about an amazing rifle?
Sounds like sour grapes.

Not sour grapes at all Architect, do you read some of the childish, obnoxious comments by CHG Canon?

Older and wiser voices can help you find the right camera brand, especially when you are willing to listen to those who shoot Canon.

I hope this is the place to ask this question. I like taking wildlife (esp birds) and landscape pix.

I'm using a 70-200mm L II lens with my 7D Mk II and have always been pleased with this combo.
I'm considering moving to an R7 with one of the kit lens (RF 18 - 150?), and an RF lens somewhat comparable to my EF70 - 200, maybe the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM Lens. I don't want to spend the money for the pricey L lens.

Should I expect the R7 with these lenses to be about as sharp, or sharper than my old EF 70 - 200 L lens?

With an adapter I can use my EF lenses on the R7. Is there a way to use the RF lenses on my 7D II? I'm thinking that if so, then I can sell some of my older EF ones and have a little more to spend on newer RF lenses.

I have been using my 850 for a few years and gotten lots of bif that are tack sharp. I am not aware of any 'money shot' that I've missed but I have gotten a few being slow and patient. You go ahead and get your Oly that can start taking pictures before you are set up. I'll stay with my trusty 850

Uh huh. You do that. Pure UHH.

Amazing how Nikon owners trashed Canon for over 30 years about everything from changing mounts to DR and noise.
Now that the Nikon mount totally changed, not counting the previous 8 changes, and the large incompatibility with even AF lenses and Canon RF being compatible 100% with all EF and EF-S lenses back to 1987 and now it surpasses DR of Nikon and lower noise that now who cares about the make of camera and they are all good.
It's like we don't remember all that 10 year old crap for years and now all of a sudden forget it?
LOL

First, no - you cannot use RF lenses on a EF / EF-S mount camera. The RF lenses sit at 20mm from the sensor, while the EF / EF-S mount is 44mm. Ignoring all the other technical challenges, moving the RF lens 24mm further from the sensor would be like adding an extension tube. Logically, the lens could focus very close (macro) but would be worthless for anything more distant.

The 18-150 should be a wonderful lens. We'll have to see how it performs relative to adapted EF lenses. The RF lens is variable aperture, so even if as sharp, it will use smaller apertures through the zoom focal length vs your EF 70-200 zoom.

Pretty amazing that the Canon R7 is as fast as the Sony A1 and the vaunted Z9.
And at 30 fps it shoots raw files where the Z9 only goes at 20 fps (R3 does raw at 30 fps as well).

"...The groundbreaking new Canon EOS R7(opens in new tab) and Canon EOS R10 mirrorless cameras! The EOS R7 in particular is grabbing all the headlines, thanks to its incredible specs as Canon's new flagship APS-C camera.

The competitively-priced Canon EOS R7 offers pro-level 15fps mechanical shutter burst speeds, intelligent AF tracking for vehicles, people and animals, big-time 32MP image resolution, and is Canon’s first APS-C camera to feature in-body image stabilization.

Despite its lower price and lower resolution 24MP sensor, the Canon EOS R10 also matches the R7 with 15fps mechanical continuous shooting. To put these burst speeds in perspective, the R7 and R10 are both mechanically faster than any other Canon EOS camera – including the Canon EOS R3, Canon EOS R and Canon EOS R6 – and the R7 offers 30 frames per second electronically – which matches the R3, Sony A1 and Nikon Z9 (unless you factor in the latter’s 11MP crop mode)."

Having shot Canon for a L-O-N-G time I am now sticking with the Sony RX10m4 - for which Canon (or anyone else) has no answer ....
