Longshadow,
That's what i use, I have 4 of them. Best built!
Thanks for the reminder and the warning to regularly inspect straps etc.
Be sure and get one with a cable when you go to California .

Now I’m getting a little paranoid and somewhat anxious.
I don’t like the proprietary straps because I don’t want thieves to decide which brand of camera they wish to steal today.
I generally buy a wrist strap for my 5D and my Rebel 2000. They are not bulky and can handle the wear and tear. For a larger 1v-HS I will use a neck strap made from nylon and heavily sewn together.
I keep a few straps on hand and still in the package.

The new straps made mostly of military grade nylon type products seem very safe but still it makes me question just how safe they really are. The only straps I've had break were long ago when they were made of leather. I never had one break and cause an accident, just come apart in the camera bag as I was moving stuff around. The old straps would get dried out and crack.

I've never had an actual strap break. But I did have one of those cheap cord connectors break on a Peak Design strap once. Peak offered a new connector for free, but I elected to round file it and go back to the Optech straps I have used since 1983. Unbeatable and made in the USA!!
I use a Leather strap, as a matter of fact I am on my second leather strap. After 39 years of use my original strap was starting to tear along the edges. I made repairs to it until I made my second strap. The one thing I failed to do over the years was to clean and oil the strap. This is one thing I will do with my new strap every year or so depending on how much I use the camera.
I used to worry more about falling or just dropping the camera than I did about the strap breaking. Now you've opened a whole new area of concern for me.

YES. Sea kayaking off La Jolla. Had my Pentax W60 secured to the kayak by the strap. Got to the shore and no camera - but I had half the strap.
This camera had a corded strap that was joined to a webbing strap and sealed in a plastic moulding. The connection broke, the camera is at the bottom of the bay (or was in 2011) and I was a short piece of webbing strap.
Gutted. My own fault that I hadn't downloaded the images beforehand (we were two weeks into a 3 month 15,000 mile tour) and lost shots out of Heathrow, and several whilst travelling plus any action shots (jetboat rides etc.).
Never been really happy with the Nikon AW100 I replaced it with but couldn't lay my hands on an Olympus at the time.
I use Optech cross body straps on all of my cameras and never had an issue. I also have an Optech harness for my binoculars. Optech is made in the USA which I like.
