I know my opinion goes against the grain, but I hate to see software going to subscription. I bought a GoPro software package that contains loads of information, but the editing relies on Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro. If I could buy Premiere without paying for it every month, I would, but I don't want to be locked into monthly payments forever. I could buy Final Cut Pro, but it costs $300, and I prefer doing my editing on Windows. I'll continue video editing with PowerDirector, but it would be nice to be able to use the editing directions that come with this package. Premiere costs $240 a year.

Yes, I realize that the monthly cost is peanuts - more than I spend on peanuts every month, but adding up all those peanuts bills results in a huge total.

The package - whoops! The $37 sale ended.

You have inexpensive yet capable video editors as well as free ones.

Movavi is the one I use ($94.95)

True, but it would be nice to use the advice from the GoPro package. I would be willing to give Adobe a lump sum payment, but they don't want it. They could offer the subscription for those who want or need constant updates, and they could offer it buy-it-once deal for those who just want the program.

They make more money on subscriptions?
Enticing people that they must keep the program updated? Old is passé? Even though "old" may work for 90% of the people, except those that have to have the latest and greatest?

FWIW I agree 100%. What they are doing is increasing overall total revenue while at the same time locking the customer into their software. It's pretty sneaky and underhanded if you ask me. I agree with you - offer both options for those who only need one or the other. My editing needs are simple so I use VideoStudio 2021, which is still on a one-time purchase basis.

Unfortunately, the only that matters is profit.

They do. It's called Elements, and does a wonderful job, especially if you add Nic and Portrait/Landscape Pro as utilities.

It's fine for you not to like the sales model. Just like it's fine for them to sell their product any way they want. Sneaky and underhanded is over the top.

I am in agreement with you regarding subscription software. That is why I uses Photoshop Elements. For less than a year's subscription cost for PSCC, I have more than enough power and ability to PP my photos to my satisfaction. I've always preferred a frugal and cost saving opportunity. I have a philosophy, "Use it up and wear it out, make it do or do without." I will invest in something to make my life easier, but I'll do it in the most economical way I can, and then use it until it doesn't work anymore. Only if necessary will I replace it.

I disagree. I think sneaky and underhanded is an apt description. I think it borders on deceptive.

How so? Where's the deception? Where's the sneaky? Are they misinforming you? How so?

I think that "manipulative" is also an apt description. The trouble is the bean counters think it's a good marketing strategy.

That should be obvious to any independent thinker.
