A predator that is most active at dawn and dusk, the cat is a solitary hunter but a social species.

Failure to control breeding of pet cats by spaying and neutering, as well as abandonment of pets, has resulted in large numbers of feral cats worldwide, contributing to the extinction of entire bird, mammal, and reptile species, and evoking population control.

Gabby on film

Gabby came from PAWS Chicago in January 2021. She's now about 4-years old and missing one of her paws. None of the paperwork was sure of where she came from or what has happened in her past. I selected her as part of the clear the older cats program.

Gabby close-ups with extension tube

Images shared in this post feature Canon EF L-series prime lenses on both digital and film EOS bodies, also many times with EF extenstion tubes for closer focus.

Thank you Mike, Frank, Moondoggie, Joe, ddgm! If memory serves, I think Frank was the source for the Tri-X used / tested in some of these film images.

CHG_CANON, nice Kitty. It seems that when I photograph my Missy, I get "Green Eye" more than I would like. You don't seem to have that problem. Any tips?

Thank you ddgm! I'm guessing 'green eye' is a reflection in the eyes, somewhat like red eye with a flash? There's not a flash involved in these images. Probably all the lenses have an extension tube letting me focus very close. So, I'm working at an angle / position, without a flash, where I don't get light reflecting back off the rear of the cat eye.

Yes, you're right about the reflection thing, I'll go over some of the photos and see if the flash was used, and if so I will change that. Thanks for your response, My Missy and Molly before her were both rescue cats.

Thanks for doing what you did. Kittens are great, but there is nothing quite like the easy friendship of an old cat safely resting in your lap.

Cats, on the other hand, tend to ignore humans... unless their food or water bowl needs filling.

But seriously, she looks like a sweetheart!

(P.S. I have two "retired ferals" mooching off me )

Hi Gabby! That CHG-Canon guy sure got lucky with you. A face that draws out smiles from whomever sees it.
And you pose too!!

OH Yeah - very nice camera work and accompanying info, Mr. Chicago.

Handsome cat. Great portraits. Your commentary and the information about feral cats and how over population can affect other animals was interesting.
