Yes shutter curtain sticks and over exposes
Hopefully clean and lube still not too expensive
One area where mirrorless would keep on working in silent mode

Thank you.and the manual says.......:

‘Aspect ratios can be set and the JPEGS will be saved at that ratio, while RAW will always be in the 3x2 format.’ Because I shoot in raw, I never used the function. So yes my response was incorrect or at least incomplete.

But while you took the time to look it up, why didn’t you take the time to suggest that the OP could could quickly verify the sensor problem by test shooting in RAW?

As always we rely on those of you that are more knowledgeable to set us straight, that’s what makes UHH such a valuable resource.
Thank you.and the manual says.......: br br ‘Aspe... (show quote)

It was possitively the shutter, 79 posts ago. No further ideas or tests needed.

A piece of white paper from another sd card could still be in the camera even if another card is used.

White paper in the card slot, left behind from another card ... Pure UHH.

This definitely looks like a shutter issue. I had a similar appearance when one of the shutter blades in an old film camera got slightly bent - it is basically a light leak. Most likely the entire shutter will have to be replaced, which may or may not cost as much as a new camera - the 70D is so long out of production there may be problems even finding replacement parts.

Thank you. I’ve already sold the 70D for parts only on EBay. Sold within 10 minutes of its listing for $150. Thank you everyone for your enlightening responses.

Maybe one of the shutter blades is hanging up?. The bottom one?
Just a guess. Good luck.

Since it appears at the bottom onf the images, it would be the top shutter curtain as the image is inverted by the lens.

Once again an esteemed, knowledgeable member has spoken so excuse my not knowing that therefore the thread shouldn’t continue beyond a predetermined point ( even though the member (you) were referring to a comment taken out of context in a specific reply to Chg canon’s reply to an earlier post of mine.

Is there a published list of ‘Unwritten’ rules that I have overlooked?

Ps: what you said appears to be correct and for that I willingly offer you the appropriate accolades.

These pictures were taken yesterday with my Canon 70D, and a white area started to appear…..

I’m inclined to believe it is a shutter defect. It maybe a minor issue. Contact Canon USA. It will not be under warranty. The repair cost of a new part will be worth it because it’s a great camera. Good Luck

A+ - added to the 'rules' section of my own collection of witticisms. Just above:

Life is like photography, it's easy until you start following all the rules explained on the internet.
