They don't put CD players in new cars anymore but you can load tunes on a thumb drive and they'll play just fine.
So I filled up a 64 gb drive with no issues in the car. But I have a large collection so I got a 128gb drive & added to it but the car won't recognize the drive. The only difference I can see is that the 64gb drive's file system is fat32 while the 128gb drive is exfat. What might be my options? Could I reformat the 128 drive to fat32. Are there already 128 gb drives available that are fat32 (assuming that's issue).?

Even in the uncompressed 16bit 44Khz mode 64GB would hold a lot of music. That would be like 60 or 70 CD's.

Is it too much trouble to swap two 64s?

I have almost 4,000 songs (mostly from 250+CDs), that take up less than 18Gb, and will last me over 10 days playing 24Hrs a day. All fit on a 20Gb fob.

I just checked, and one of the flash drives I use in my car is FAT 32.

If you save them as compress MP3 then you can have a lot. I assume the worse case scenario with the files exactly the same size as they are on the CD.
But anyway I think we can still install a CD player in the car. I don't listen to music in the car anymore but if I do I would put a CD player in it or perhaps a cassette player. The cassette player would be a difficult one as they don't make new one and even the best one may not work any more because the cassette mechanism is quite complex. I like to swap the CD or Tapes. I don't really like too many songs on 1 single USB stick.

Yea, they were extracted from the CDs as MP3s.

Had I known that it could be a problem, I definitely would have gone that way ( & still might ).

Well, I wasn’t thinking when I started ripping the songs to my computer for transfer. I had the rip mode in wav instead of mp3.

My one camera cannot utilize any memory over 32Gb;
the older bridge camera, nothing over 4Gb.

I used iTunes to rip them, it might have defaulted to MP3.

I prefer to keep them in wav and as I said even in wav the 64GB still hold a whole lot of songs.

You can format as FAT32 and try. FAT32 can be used on drives up to 2 TB from memory.
But note as some others pointed out sometimes the machine will only see up to a certain size so many be your car is limited to 64GB. Good luck.

You can get a 5-pack of 64GB thumb drives on Amazon for $27.
