Another one from today.... when I start posting ants and watered plants that means that finding bugs is becoming difficult... I was checking out the Ice Cream diffuser and a full set of extension tubes with a 28mm reversed lens.... hits and misses very hard to focus at f/11 as the longer tubes eats up the light, and then that big old diffuser blocks the sunlight. It does produce a softer image with less refraction problems. Refraction on the reversed lens on tubes is still a problem but not as bad with this diffuser.

If this is a 2-mm long ant, your image, as posted, equals about a 10:1 magnification (10x life-size).

Now you made me go and shoot a millimeter scale.. the lens is shooting at about 4x, about 5.5-millimeters on a 22-mm sensor. Image looks a little soft to me... Certainly not as good as Efram's MP-E... I am surprised that we did not see more from him, he got that new lens and told us about it only to disappear.

That ant is not 5-mm long. A 2-mm ant nearly filling a 22-mm FoV is about 10:1 mag (10x life-size).

Very cool. Almost transparent. I gotta try this reverse lens approach

The ant was definitely one of the smaller variety and definitely did not seem to me to be anywhere near 5mm in length, but of course I never consider legs and antennae when considering the length of a bug.... here is the photo as it came off the camera uncropped.

I once caught myself photographing icicles in the middle of the night with a flash. Great shots, I like both water drops and the ant.
