Not interested. I already have a Leica.

Its a very nice feeling that the Leica cameras and lenses you have rose and continues to rise in value with time :>)
If only I had the right one, I would sell it and pay off my house.

They are indeed very cool, until the weather gets warm. Apparently their ventilation was marginal, at least at low speeds (those gull wing windows didn't roll down) and there was no factory A/C at the time. I've seen pictures of 300 SL "conventions" where everybody in line to get into the location has their gull wing doors up, to get some air flow.

And one of the coolest photos I've seen is this one, lit with 2 Nikon Speedlights (or equivalent):

Shhh, don't tell my brothers and sisters. My father left me his Leica gear, they though it was quaint that he did. He was an Army dental surgeon, he was stationed at the large US Army hospital in Bremerhaven as the war had just ended. His 'hobby' was photography and he loved Leica cameras. He traded coffee, meat, cigarettes and all manner of things for any and all Leica items.

My Favorite item is the Leica 85cm f 1.5 lens. But this was the early lenses that were produced in the 1930's for the German military, these are made with more precision and greater tolerances than the 85cm lens produced after the war. So, I'm guessing this lens has a value of thousands. There are other items, a limited production for the 50mm f3.5 standard lens you see on Oscar's camera had an attachment so one could do 3D images. What is almost unknown is the 35mm attachment for the 35mm lens that did the same 3D type images.

Estimate, I could probably buy my building five times over with what is in the fire proof safe. But don't tell the family, they think it was quaint of Daddy to give me is old gear!

And remember, you can't steel any Leica with serial numbers, they are recorded with E. Leitz as to the owner and if found then they are returned to the person holding the ownership of that numbered item.

A rare Leica 0-Series No.105 camera will be going up for sale at the Leitz Photographica Auction in Germany on June 11th.

The camera, produced in 1923, once belonged to Oskar Barnack, the Leitz Company engineer who designed the horizontal transport 35 mm format camera. Barnach started his career at Zeiss before moving to Leica.

The pre-auction estimate is 2-3 million euros.

And I thought auto auction attendees were the incredibly stupid ones.

Just because someone doesn't appreciate the history, quality or value of a vintage car, camera or other object, doesn't make those who do "stupid." To each his own I say.

I do "appreciate" old cars. I used to rebuild and sell/use them. And I suppose that I was a fanatic. If they had 4 doors, that was 2 too many, and they weren't even considered. I never thought about working on something like a Model T or something of that nature. To me, if you can't use it, what value is it. And the use can be sensual as in a beautiful photo on the wall. But, I do not give 2 hoots in hell that Stevie Ray Vaughn owned that Stratocaster. I can buy a new one that will probably play better (and yes, I can play). That is the part I don't understand. If I am not complete within myself, a bigger gun will not prove anything. This is definitely not a majority opinion, else we wouldn't be having this ???

That is certainly a preferable explanation than implying that others who may have different values are "stupid."

The Lot includes a "heavily-modified Nettel camera that Barnack used for his photographic research studies," which I assume this is (but I'm totally unfamiliar with the term):

I have always believed that Leitz is overrated, and for the money, I will take a Zeiss anytime.

If that makes me a Philistine; then so be it.

It is interesting to me, and telling, that the gentleman who owned the device designed the modern 35mm film camera, while employed by Zeiss. It is also true that the 35mm film canister still in use was designed by Zeiss.

"nuff said.

Which to me reinforces the notion that a fostering environment for human capital is one of the top markers for success in business.

The hammer price for the "Oskar Barnack" Leica was €14,400,000 (almost 5 times the pre-auction estimate). No information on the buyer. That's over 15 million dollars, making it by far the world's most expensive camera.
