I got shingles a year ago last April and can tell you it is nothing you want to get. Mine showed up on the left side of my face and damaged a nerve. I still have numbness in my left jaw, cheek and lips although it is “ slowly “ getting better. My wife immediately got the shot. I wished I had.

I had a "Minor Case of Shingles" and I can tell you that Shingles is Nothing to take lightly!
It is extremely painful and can blind you!
Also, the symptoms last for years.
Sleeping is out of the question during an outbreak, so go get your shot ASAP!
This is scary stuff.

A guy on YouTube was talking about "the good old days." He said that when a kid in the neighborhood got chickenpox, they would invite all the kids in the neighborhood to a party so they would all get it and get it out of the way. That sounds literally unbelievable.

Back in 1965 1 week before finals and High School graduation, I caught German measles. I had gone through 4 years of high school without a single day's absence. I even went on snowstorms. Because I left before the radio announced school cancellations, the janitor turned me away several times. I was determined to get a perfect attendance award, so I hid in the back of the classes. Just before lunch, my English teacher spotted (excuse the pun) my face and sent me to the nurse's office. She sent me home for a week and a doctor's note to return in time for finals. I missed out on the award, but with an entire week to study for finals, I aced every final test.

Chicken pox isn't all that bad but having it can lead to shingles later in life which can be very painful. My bout with shingles was not painful but it almost got into my eye which can cause blindness.

I had chickenpox at 40. It was pretty bad…sickest I’ve ever been.

That's a prime example for why parents would expose their children when young to prevent the child from catching it later in life when it is severe.

We did that with the chicken pox and because we all got it and recovered from it at about the same age we developed the active immunity and never caught it again.
It's not so unbelievable since as a child chickenpox is quite minor although it tends to be much worse the older one gets when they contract it.

That was the whole point in chicken pox parties. For the most part, chicken pox in kids is minor inconvenience lasting a couple of days and it's gone for good. Some kids are not even aware that they've had it. In the mid 20th century, most adults had chicken pox as kids themselves so their kids getting it was no big deal.

However if you are an adult when you contract it, the symptoms are much worse and you really suffer with it. Far better to get it out of the way early so your kids don't give it to you later. Shingles shots always a good idea.

I had shingles... once, so far... a spot smaller than a dime on my left forefinger... thought it was a spider bite 'cause my finger was losing feeling. Doctor said, "Nope, shingles". That was six years ago... most of the finger's sensitivity is back, but not completely; probably won't ever come back. Shingles is not something to scoff at... though I still haven't gotten the shot.

If I had a spot like that come up I probably wouldn't even go to the Dr.
I'm one of those people that it has to be pretty serious to go to the Dr since I spent so many years with no insurance.
I've suffered through a few broken bones and in fact I was nearly over COVID the first time I had it before it was diagnosed.
I just stayed home and in bed.

Now it is your turn to be the source of wisdom and common sense.
I miss my mom, too.
