What's the big deal? One case in U.S. so far. 2022 United States Monkeypox Case. On May 18, 2022, a U.S. resident tested positive for monkeypox after returning to the U.S. from Canada. As of May 18, 2022, no additional monkeypox cases have been identified in the U.S.

National news are reporting that it began in Europe at some gay festivals. Apparently there was a lot of hooking ups going on and it spread from there.

It appears that a lot of the transmission is via "intimate" physical contact, meaning sexual contact. Direct contact, probably with exposure of mucus membranes to infectious bodily fluids, is the most likely method of spread - not airborne. Many of these zoonotic infections (originating in animals) get transferred to humans when an infected animal is killed, skinned, and slaughtered for food.

I would be more leery of the people trying to convince you how terrible monkey pox is than the monkey pox itself. I believe that they are in search of the next pandemic candidate since Covid seems to be on the way out of our concerns and their ability to control us.
