Greece Is Open For Travel (pt. 12) - Sounion (Cape Sounio)
I still don't know the proper way of listing this place. I've seen it both ways -- in multiple languages, no less! Wikipedia refers to it as "Cape Sounion," so there's that...
Less than fifty miles southeast of Athens is the promontory at the southernmost tip of the Attic peninsula. Noted primarily for its Sanctuary of Poseidon, which stands overlooking the area.
The weather on the day of my visit was overcast and very windy. I'm glad I wore a hooded rain/windbreaker. The wind would have blown my hat off without it!

Graffiti is frowned upon, but Lord Byron added his name in about 1810-11, so it's alright, no?

I have been there many times. My Family lives in Nafpaktos, Greece, which is 3 hours from the Athens Airport at the most. Since the Bridge has been up from Patreas, the venture is probably 2 hours. I don't care because we start drinking as soon as we load up everything and head to Our 60 room Hotel that we built after my Uncle passed. My Cousin and I own it and have owned it for 60yrs. now. It started out as a Cafe/Restaurant when my Uncle and Father built it, but then we moved to Queens New York and I came to Michigan at 17 to attend U of M.

Nice photos. I wish I could visit Greece but at my age I don't expect it to be possible.

Never give up hope! I saw a number of people on my trip using walking sticks and other assistive devices. As long as you keep the region between your ears healthy, anything is possible! Thanks for looking.

Another great installment of this tour, love that view and your architectural shooting!

Thank you. I've told everybody that I enjoyed it so much while doing it, that I'm going to enjoy it all over again viewing it.

I made a mistake when I stated that my Cousin and I built our 60 room Hotel in Greece 40 Years ago. My Uncle actually started a Restaurant 45 years ago and we took it over after he passed away. I managed to squeeze some Lemons out of my Father, who kept telling us that we would fail. Well, we have been doing well for 25 Strong Years now, minus Covid. In fact, my Cousin and I might be building something in Tel Aviv starting next Year. Both places will take your Breath Away!
