There is an add on my e-mail from Nikon. It lists some refurbished cameras at a the best prices I have seen yet. Is this a real Nikon store or supplier and what could I expect with refurbished.

Impossible to say without seeing or trying the link they sent to you. I will say that I have purchased refurbished items direct from Nikon and each time the item was in excellent condition and truly like new. Beware of non-Nikon refurbishments - they may or may not be as represented.

If link is to valid Nikon site, products are in excellent condition. I have purchased four Nikon refurbished cameras, one film many years ago and three DSLRs, and all were problem free.

Don't over-imagine what happens during a 'refurbish'. The most likely source is customer returns within a 30-day period. Or, demo equipment, that is: virtually new, but equipment that can no longer that can be sold as new. A simple inspection checklist to confirm all the items that belong in the box are there, including wrapping and styrofoam, and that camera is ready to be resold as 'refurbish' at a reduced priced. It would make no economic sense to return it to a factory, or fix something broken, perform a detailed inspection, etc, and to then sell at less than new after all that economic value was added. If there's something wrong, the next customer can discover and return during the limited warranty.

Refurbished can be a great value-purchase. You get more buyer protection than used, and buying from Nikon (Canon, etc), you also know you're buying US-market equipment.

I always check B&H before buying from Nikon USA. B&H quite often sells exactly the same refurbs and B&H Payboo saves me the sales tax.

My Z6 and FTZ are refurbs. 1200 for the combo, both like brand new.

My imagination tells me that the FTZ was returned by someone with "AF-D" lenses, and the body is from someone who didnt anticipate the cost of the card and reader.

The refurb markdown more than paid for my high end card and reader ($240) :-)

Why not go to Nikon USA and see if the sale is repeated there?

There is a legitimate 4-day refurbish sale going on from Nikon. Very attractive prices, especially on the D5. Got an email from them this morning.
