I'm looking at a new printer, Epson 8550, on backordered,, but looking at the size I mIght have to move it to a different. I see it's wireless too and my question is does a direct wire connection work better or NO difference then hooking it up wireless?
I'm looking for best quality in 11x14 prints.
I might go to the epson 8500 and forget doing larger prints.
I looked at Canon but I need to copy and scan too.love the principle of the ink tanks

The printer "works" the same, there is a faster speed with wired as the data does not have to go through my encrypted WIFI. Our printer is wired to the desktop for printing when using the desktop, but the laptops print to it via WIFI.

I would connect the printer with wire to the router but it can be printed from any computer either connected to the router via wire or wifi. The speed isn't important as the data can be transfered to the printer faster than the printer can executes it.

If the router is close...
Our router is in the family room, our printer is in the office upstairs by the desktop.
Plugging it into the router gets rid of one encryption delay, leaving only going to the router.
Time-wise, I/we have no problem with the double delay, to router then to printer.
Personal choice.

The print quality will be the same. The print speed really depends on how up to date and robust your Wi-Fi network is.

I agree, wired to router, then each device can add the printer via OS.

Wireless or wire, they work the same. Why wouldn't they?

I found a couple of my printers when I connected them to the router via Wifi they tend not reconnect after a power outage.

Once the data gets to the printer they work the same. WiFi signals from computer to printer can be subject to outside disturbances.

I have had computer on first floor and wireless printer on second for the last twenty years. An inexpensive HP 7100 that can do everything except fax. Never had a printing problem.

It seems that printers are getting larger - or maybe just the ones I buy. I made a table to hold three printers plus supplies, but as new printers get large, they don't fit.

Don't concern yourself with the size. Get the printer that works the way you want it to work. I have several wireless printers, but I use them with wires. I already know it will be a frustrating experience trying to set them up as wireless. Of course, if you follow the directions carefully, it might be very simple.

We have one printer, it always re-connects on its own.

Both my printers are wireless. They print perfectly and are not noticeably slower.

Maybe I'll try to connect wirelessly. If I have any problems, I'll contact you.
