Having waited for a very long time with no estimated availability, until recently, the Nikon TC14E III teleconverter is back in stock. Today notification was received that the Nikon 105mm f2.8G ED IF AF S has been discontinued.
Also noted at $2496.95, there is a savings of $500 on the Nikon D850.
This makes me wonder if Nikon is slowly disbanding its DSLR line in favor of mirrorless.
At 73 other than a few lenses, I see no need to convert to mirrorless. What is the future of the DSLR? Is it worth buying new glass for my D750 and D810? Would anyone care to comment? I do not wish this to become a pandoras box debate of mirrorless versus DSLR, but wonder what others think Thank you.
Please note my focus is primarily wild life, scenics, pets and grandkids.

There's no debate. Nikon (along with Canon and Sony) have no plans to ever release another DSLR.

But, why would that impact your expected usage of your current DSLRs? Both your cameras have shutters rated to 150,000 actuations. (The D810 actually to 200k.) Unless, and until, one experiences a breakage / repair issue, you should have no reason to be concerned about any new cameras.

Lenses might be an issue, but there thousands of used lenses available in the resale market.

I would check Nikon's website on this question. A couple of previous cases have occurred and been reported here in which one or another retailer reported an item as discontinued which turned out not to have been.

This lens has been a very popular member of Nikon's lineup for a number of years. Development and tooling costs have been long-since amortized. My first guess is that if they were planning to discontinue lenses, they would most likely start with one other than this one.

I was anticipating the purchase of a D850 to add to my D810 and D750. The D750 should be going for a noisey shutter repair soon. In retrospect, investing in new glass might be a better option. It is doubtful at my age that a switch to mirrorless will happen. Yes, perhaps I should check availability at other retailers. Maybe someone has one on a shelf somewhere. I prefer to buy new rather than used...just overly cautious. Thank you both for a response.

Luckly for me, I already have that lens, so no concerns here. Nikon, like most of the high-end camera manufacturers, are simply evolving with the technology. Why continue to deal with moving parts when technology has evolved beyond them!
Although I own 3 Nikon DSLRs, D7200, D500, D850, and plenty of Nikkor lenses, I'm more of a Canon user. Don't get me wrong, I like my Nikons but I've always preferred Canon's ergonomics to Nikon.
As for the DSLR vs MILC debate, now that MILC technology is maturing, I personally could care less if the reflex mechanism goes away, as long as the camera is fast and capable of recording high quality images.
The next camera I buy will no doubt be a Canon with quad pixel AF.
As for needing to convert to MILC, that's totally up to you. If your current gear does what you want it to do, and you're not the collector type, like me and oh so many others, I see absolutely no reason for you to switch. Most people don't switch from DSLR to MILC because they have to, but because they want to. Me, I wait for the technology to stabilize. I don't have to have the latest just because it is the latest. I trust my DSLR technology and MILC technology has come a very long way since its introduction and is now as good as or better than older DSLR technologies.

I suspect...Nikon and all others will soon go to Mirrorless Cameras and DSLR will be a thing of the past. Reminds me of when the F6 was announced at the start of the "digital revolution" which was the beginning of the end for film and all that good stuff associated with shooting film. Please don't call me a purist I love to photography no matter how one captures it.

Something being on sale does not mean it will be discontinued. This is Mother's Day weekend and my inbox has received sale notices from B&H, Adorama and several other companies with a multitude of items that are on sale this weekend. Almost every other commercial on the tv is for Mother's Day gifts. A lot of companies were hit hard by the pandemic and with things now coming back it makes sense to put items on sale to encourage people to purchase.

As far as the lens, have you considered searching the Nikon website, B&H and Adorama for a refurbished lens. There are also several companies that deal in used items. A friend of mine has a camera that she purchased as a refurbished 14 years ago and it is still going strong. Also, have you considered a lens by another brand. I primarily use Tamron but also have Nikon and Sigma lenses. I'm happy with all of them.

Personally, (at this time) I have no desire to change to mirrorless. I have 3 camera bodies and many lenses that should keep me happy for a very long time.

Good luck with your search for the lens you want.

What does age have to do with it? I am 75 and recently, (and happily), moved to a Nikon Z mirrorless camera with Z lenses. I am very pleased I did.

Probably no one wants their personal email / work email addresses published randomly onto the internet.

You should consider removing this attachment. If determined to post, consider editing and blacking-out all the addresses and names.

At 80 I find myself shooting with a digitized 4X5" view camera and a Fuji GX680 with various digital and 4X5" and 120/220 backs. Yes, my back is killing me but I'll do it till they close the lid over me.

I'll take a Z9 some day but 6k is a little steep and all those lenses to buy.

Exactly luvmypets... Likewise my Nikon D3x was a refurb... And it still is paying the bills over a decade later...
In fact all four of my Nikon "Pro" level bodies are Refurbs from Nikon USA.

My clients have zero concern about my "Kit" they only care about my deliverables... Word!

Nikon D3x (Refurb) at 1/250; ISO 100; f/7.1; WB: 5260K; Lens: AF 85mm f/1.4D Nikkor (released in 1995)
