Because somebody will buy it.

The latest cameras are like a buffet lunch. You can have a really good lunch without tasting, much less eating it all.

I kind of look at camera manuals and technology like I look at restaurant menus. Ay any given place I eat the same few things but my companions eat something different and we both like the experience. I'll never read or understand a 600 page manual or 3/4 page menu.

Many people always strive for the latest and greatest but I'm not one of them. I compare buying cameras to buying new automobiles. Where I live I don't need all wheel drive, heated seats or a heated steering wheel. Also I'm not such a poor driver that I need adaptive cruise control or a warning alarm if I cross the center line. Bluetooth, rear camera, blind spot monitoring I love and would never buy a car without it. I'm saying there are many technological advances in both cameras and automobiles that people pay for but may never need or use so why pay for it?

That was the title that caught my attention on YouTube. The guy showed us several awful pictures taken with his fairly new Canon DSLR. He admitted, though, that it was his fault, not the camera's.

The point of his video is that you can take good pictures with almost any camera. Sometimes, too much technology can be a hindrance. He recommends using whatever camera you want, but you must get to know it thoroughly. Fumbling with controls and menus messes up your flow and ruins the experience.

This is hardly a new idea on UHH, but it was nice seeing an "expert" say the same thing.

Yeah - maybe learn how to use your equipment? Sounds like one of so many pointless videos on Youtube - which I love, but some of these videos are just meant to get views, not to actually educate.

Re “Educational Consultants” - they also have to have a PhD, ie PILED HIGHER AND DEEPER. (Retired teacher and thoroughly enjoyed it.)

It’s like when someone says; your camera takes nice pictures. Thanks, I taught it everything it knows. (Not my quote)

Because people buy !!!just because it's the latest greatest

They need to keep selling new models for new revenue. Most cameras don’t wear out. People just get tired of what they have. Without new models and new technology the industry would have died decades ago. The consumer then has the choice of either embracing the latest and greatest or stay with older models. I personally choose the second since I don’t get tired of using my gear. My models are very similar and easy to use. Not the latest and greatest but each one is at least one step ahead of the previous model. My oldest is 18 yrs old and my newest is 4 years old. Also No 900 page manuals for me.

this is so true with the cell phone. Some really great work is being done with them. In the hands of those that know what they are doing; it is hard to tell what camera was used. I,m not one of them.

There is no such thing as a bad camera. There are inexperienced photographers. After you play with the “thing” you experience a learning curve. Then there are those who want the latest, thinking it is going to be the greatest. There are some who know the basics. Then there are some who read the 600 page manual and realize they don’t know when to press the shutter.

Even though I have a dSLR, I still use some of my film cameras that are at least twenty years old. They all work.

Film isn’t dead. It just smells funny!
