That was the title that caught my attention on YouTube. The guy showed us several awful pictures taken with his fairly new Canon DSLR. He admitted, though, that it was his fault, not the camera's.

The point of his video is that you can take good pictures with almost any camera. Sometimes, too much technology can be a hindrance. He recommends using whatever camera you want, but you must get to know it thoroughly. Fumbling with controls and menus messes up your flow and ruins the experience.

This is hardly a new idea on UHH, but it was nice seeing an "expert" say the same thing.

If the newest technology wasn't better, why are they selling it?

LOL! I'm currently touring the Greek islands and have met and conversed with a number of photographers. One told me that he'd just gotten a new Nikon mirrorless (Z6 II) and said his jaw nearly dropped when he saw it had a 600-page manual! "I don't use all that stuff," he told me.

Neither do I.

I retired from education years ago. Over the years, and this may also have occurred in other professions, an expert was considered any educator from more than 20 miles away. Given that, I find plenty of “expert” in UHH that I have learn a lot from since joining; from composition, to lighting, to DOF, to lens choice, and on and on, and I thank you all for your expertise.

I have likewise learned a lot from UHH’ers. A great group,

you knowledgeable guys. Thanks for sharing both your knowledge and wonderful images!

Jerry, I just searched for that title on youtube and couldn't find it. Could you post the link to the referenced article? I have my suspicions as to who posted it.

Because people like me can't resist new technology. Also, many people just love mirrorless - know what I mean?

If I had resisted new technology, I'd still be shooting film. That said, it appears I entirely resisted DSLRs! I did have an SLR made by Nikon.

Some people, like me, really struggle with the technology. Not so much with the technology itself but just remembering what it can and can't do. Even manual operation isn't really manual anymore. If I could have my old Fujica ST801 with a sensor I'd sell all my CANON stuff tomorrow.

It could be (quite likely) that my struggles with technology are attributable to a form of Dyslexia - and as this wasn't diagnosed until I was 58 I expect there's a few more people out there just like me.

I agree that a good photographer will do excellent photography with any camera. I agree that modern digital cameras and specially mirrorless ones are fully packed with incredible technologies. Do we need all that technology? My answer is no although I admit that technology helps to make better images.
We are discussing that in the hands of a good photographer any camera will do the job. A good photographer is someone that knows his camera and its best settings to do what he wants the camera to do for him or her.

I know my cameras although I am not an expert when it comes to technology. I tend to do what I did when I was using film which is to use simple settings to photograph my subjects. My Olympus M43 system are packed with technology which I hardly use but I love Live View because among other things it allows me to see the changes I make to the exposure. Live composite is mind blowing.

Learning basic photography is the first step with any camera and reading the instructions in my opinion is the second best step. From there on it is the photographer.
