S & E Asia 106 - Myanmar 46: Mandalay 16 - Amarapura: Monks lining up for daily lunch
In this second set covering the Mahagandhayon Monastery in Amarapura, I concentrate on the faces of the monks and on small details like the rice bowls each monk is holding, as they line up to enter the dining halls.
Further information on the monastery, Buddhism, monks and nuns was provided in the preceding post #105.
You can find the location of the Mahagandhayon Monastery at the lower center on the attached map of Mandalay.

Nice. Why the different colored robes?

Thank you Bruce for looking in on the tour again - yes being a monk in Myanmar is mostly a part-time vocation, many people drift in and out of monasteries several times during a life span.

Thank you for looking in on my travelogue Thomas and your kind comment. I believe this is the first time I see you commenting on one of my tours, so I bid you a hearty welcome! The white robes signify that this is a group of novices that has not yet attained the status of a monk.

White are novices, not monks.

Were is grasshopper?
Sorry bnsf, a bit too cryptic a question for me to answer - are you talking about grasshoppers for food? - possibly they are on the dinner plate in image #10, or are you talking about the Swiss soccer club? - they will be playing against Lugano on Sunday April 24.
