Is anyone else bothered by people who ask the most basic and banal questions ( where can I find a piece of software?, what do Photoshop and Lightroom do? how do I focus my camera?) that could be better and more thoroughly answered opening a manual or doing a Google search? The fact that members of this community politely provide answers is admirable; but does nothing to encourage responsibility and self sufficiency.
I am concerned by the lack of initiative by some people to do research, their willingness to accept casual advice, and the abysmal lack of knowledge on how to find reliable information. This is a microcosm of how and where Americans form their opinions.
I was always advised that the only "stupid question" was one that was never asked. What to one person may seem to be perfectly obvious, may not be perceived that way to others. Can't we all strive to be a bit more tolerant and patient toward others?
Research takes many forms so it would include a forum such as UHH where knowledgeable people can be found. I like to think people use it as one of many sources in their research.
JMHO here. I try to look at the good side of things, like...it never bothers me to see people anxious to help others, but I'm OLD and not bothered by much any more (not that I ever was, so maybe I'm just a bit wacky). The only thing that bothers me is seeing that some people are aggravated by almost anything anyone does. Some even get snarky and make rude comments about almost everything. People can learn a lot from other people's experiences and maybe several will learn because of the same question. Nothing wrong with asking, being kind or trying to help.
In my opinion, if someone sees something that irritates them or just makes them roll their eyes, maybe they could just scroll on. Silence is golden, so they say.

Most all questions have a variety of answers, some may even be correct. Forums such as this obviously are populated by people with interest in photography, so any questioned asked is likely to get answered by people interested and experienced in photography. Even if the question seems simple, it's generally good to get a variety of opinions from a variety people.
I'm far more bothered by people complaining about the same questions being asked and telling someone to look it up themselves, or how many pages a topic might produce when they obviously are too stupid to skip stuff that doesn't interest them.
If I'm not interested, I simply pass on the thread. Suggest you do the same.

I'm in total agreement with your response.
People learn differently: I've read manuals and watched videos, but some things I needed to ask for a differently worded explanation before grasping a concept.
When I find myself getting irritated over perceived banality on UHH, I just take a break from the site. This website has hundreds of active members of all personalities and experiences. Great to see how many people have already responded in this thread with the attitude "live and let live."
I rarely derive pleasure from complaining publicly about what I don't like here, though an occasional calling out of the grumpy old men does give me a brief tingly-good feeling of superiority
There is no excuse for laziness. Asking for help AFTER making an attempt to find your answer is a different story. How does one ask a questions without even acquiring or reading the manual?
Seems like some of us would prefer that people seeking help list all the resources they’ve already accessed before reaching out to UHH to determine whether or not a response is warranted.
