UPS on a Decline

For at least a year, UPS deliveries have been on a decline. A package could arrive at 10:00 AM or 7:00 PM or any time in between. We have a different driver every day, so they don't know the neighborhood. I have gotten three deliveries for neighbors in the past two months. An email told me that my laptop power supply was delivered yesterday. It wasn't. Amazon is referring me to the seller in Texas, but I haven't been able to find a way to contact them yet. If a neighbor doesn't bring the package over, I'll have to talk to Amazon on the phone.

I think it may all come down to where you live. We have the same delivery person most days. Delivery is generally same time every day. If not I know our regular person is off. If I do order something and it starts with one delivery service and turned over to the P.O. I get an email on delivery time. And I get it.

....

You mean the quality of UPS deliveries?
Not volume (amount)?

Don’t waste your time complaining either. You will number 45in the queue and on hold for another hour and a half. All of which means nothing because you will be disconnected after a minute into your gripe about how S#i%%¥ their service has been.

Interesting as I've not had a real problem yet with any delivery service. Maybe because we don't order a ton of stuff.
I do wish that ANY delivery service would ring the doorbell though.

That parallels my experiences with UPS in California too. UPS can be fearfull for anything expensive or hard to find to buy. It has been a bit better with UPS now that we moved to a semi-rural area of Ca. But the USPS was horrible until we got a competent delivery person for our route. But in the big city suburb of Pomona, CA UPS was bad doing what you described. Never had a problem with FedEx or DHL on either Pomona or Grover Beach, CA. We do order a lot of mail order, usual several items weekly! Tracking so much can be a nightmare! Good luck Jerry.

The problems seem to be erratic in nature. I ordered a new tripod from B&H on Monday; it was shipped FEDEX ground (B&H "free"), and on Wednesday at 9:30AM it was in my hot little grubbies. My used Manfrotto head, ordered from Used Photo Pro on Wednesday, is out for delivery today. We usually get our UPS @ 1PM.

We do seem to have a lot of turnover as far as drivers go, but both companies seem to be holding schedules okay.

Hell, even the USPS has improved. I got an eBay purchase Wednesday, that I bought on Monday; distance was 300 miles.

I suspect that COVID has a lot to do with the problem. In 2020, three of our veteran UPS drivers all retired. Seems to be part of the problem.

Same with FedEx. I'm expecting a delivery today that requires an in-person signature. I received an email telling me the delivery would occur "by the end of day." Meaning I may have to sit around at home all day.

However, if I signed up for a FedEx account, I could get more detailed information on the expected time of delivery. So I created an account, only to be told that my delivery time will be "by the end of day."

My FedEx driver backed off my driveway into a ditch. I guess my ditch is responsible for a lot of late deliveries.

It turns out that the package I received for my neighbor was delivered by FedEx.
