I think this would be stronger in color; subject just doesn't POP.

I think that the subject itself needs more contrast. One aspect of that would be deeper darks which is actually reducing the contrast between the subject and the background, but stronger definition will give the subject more separation from the background. The theme is low key so a lack of bright highlights shouldn't be a problem, but there is definitely a need for stronger detail and definition. Some extra sharpening might help as well.
Thanks for the comments R.G. It's back to Photoshop I go

Jack, as mentioned previously needs more contrast. I don’t think you can make the sky any blacker. So a bit of lightning on the mountain should do.
Thanks Frank, that seems to be the majority opinion

Thanks for looking. I tried it in color and it just didn't work for me

My thoughts.
Most people's. As I said, back to Photoshop
What a fun photo to try some different lighting techniques on. I look forward to
your next changes.
I like this shot a lot. I did download it and added my 2 cents worth of editing. I upped the exposure a bit to bring the mountain out a bit more. Upped the highlights very slightly, sharpened the photo and that's about it. It really is about taste on this one.
Looking back, if you were on a photo safari or had a lot of time, doing the whole circular star thing would have been cool. But if you are like me, I take the shot and move on...
In any event, I think this would look nice framed.
See what you think!

Thanks...where is this?
I took this one in 2011 while on a 6 week road trip and for the life of me I can only remember it was somewhere in Arizona

Just what I had in mind. Good job!

To black you need a few stars or a lightning bolt.
My first thought was maybe some stars in the sky would help. I think my second thought would be there's a lack of context. Is this thing 1000 ft. high or is it a little outcropping on a larger boulder and only 6 inches high. Without something familiar like a tree or a person in the frame there's no way to get a feel for how big it is.
