đź‘Ť I would love to see one of these. They are related to the Joro spider that is now in the U.S., and despite some media hype, they are just as harmless to humans as this big girl.

Yikes! Benign, but I still would not want to get it in my face or hair!

I think they are called that because they are about the same size as a spider, right?

EDIT: Another typo! That should have been "...they are about the same size as a banana."

Figured that’s what you were wanting to say…. I find the older we get the more frequent those typos show up…lol

I blame it on the keyboard or autocorrect.

When we lived in Florida, we had these large spiders.

Yellow Garden Spider
Argiope aurantia

My 14-year-old son let one walk all over him.
His face, head, neck.
I let that one walk all over me too.
Spider's legs have a strange feeling.

Our granddaughter when she was 5 was afraid of spiders the size of a nat.
Now that she is a grownup 7-year-old, she has her own small tarantula spider and some other spiders which she holds.
In the pet store she even holds large hairy tarantulas.

This looks exactly like the spider I remember seeing at Papa Jacks farm when I was a kid. We called it a Banana Spider simply because it was bright yellow.

I was never particularly afraid of spiders, but never let them crawl on me without killing them, or trying to kill'em. My secretary at work loved spiders, and she would pick them up in her hand and toss them outside rather then kill them like most people do. She taught me a lot, but I still kill them in the house, but never kill them out side.
