Always fun to get a face full of Banana spider webbing, especially on a walk to your deer stand before daylight.

đź‘Ť I would love to see one of these. They are related to the Joro spider that is now in the U.S., and despite some media hype, they are just as harmless to humans as this big girl.

When I was a kid we use to see a similar spider at my buddies Grandpaps farm. It looked a lot like yours but was bright yellow. Ergo, we called it a Banana Spider. It was beautiful but looked deadly to us. Never saw one anywhere but on this farm and every year in the same area on a giant web near his bee hives. Walking into the web, at night or day would have caused heart attack, even as little kids...

Nice image. At that certain time of year I walk through the woods holding a stick out in front of me. But heading to your deer stand that might not be a option if your hands are already full.

Yikes! I don’t want to be walking into that web by accident.

The golden-colored silk that the banana spider produces is one of the most impressive biological materials known to man. Its silk is five times stronger than steel, tougher than Kevlar, and more flexible than nylon, Yet, the silk is incredibly lightweight.

I think they are called that because they are about the same size as a spider, right?

Lovely spider and quite beneficial. As a former hunter, I can truly relate to the spiderweb in the face before dawn.
