As usual, I'm sort of diametrically opined from everyone else. I LIKE the wrinkles. They tell me this is an actual cloth and not an applied background. To me, it makes the image more real. I really like the original. In the second, the violin seems to be floating in a sea of nothing, which is a bit disturbing to me.

I agree Kathy. There might be some middle ground. Like Delderby said "You can please some of the people some of the time."

Ok this is my final edit that I will keep. Don't have the in Texas Fiddle, in New York Violin, any more. Returned it to the pawn shop where they loaned it to me at no charge.
Now looks like its propped up with some wrinkled material for the base. Still dark but not distracting.

I'm glad you kept some of the texture in the background.

I like your original capture. To my eyes, the background ADDS a 3D look with greater depth to the composition. Your revised composition is too sterile in appearance. Yes, the violin and bow stand out more against the background but seems too cold to me. Look at it this way: Some people are more comfortable when they can dot their "i's" and cross their "tees", others, when then they can both think and see "out of the box". Both are great!

By the way Jim-Pops, You have inspired me, I have just received my grandfathers violin and your photo has inspired me to capture his as well. Thank you!

My final edit has a little more material on the lower 1/3. I'm happiest with the final look, just a little different that the final posted image.

I love everything about this. The violin is so rich and mellow that one can't help imaging the music it produces would be equally rich and mellow.

I really like this shot as well. Nicely lit. Nice composition. I vote for the no wrinkles. You can easy clone those out to see if you like it.

Great job

Did you see the final picture on this post? All the wrinkles are out except a very small amount for the base.

No I didn’t. I should have looked more closely. What do you think?
