If I'm going to shoot hand held I carry it by the lens foot. I exchanged the original for a RRS version.

If I will be shooting from a tripod I attach the camera and lens to the tripod and carry it over my shoulder.

I would like to hear how members of the forum carry their cameras with large lenses such as the Nikon 200mm-500mm attached. My present rig is a Cotton Carrier belt holster with the lug in the tripod socket supplemented with a Peak Design strap cross body to distribute the weight between shoulder and waist and importantly to take stress off of the tripod socket. I tried attaching the Cotton Carrier lug to the lens tripod attachment but it is very unwieldly. It's amazing how cumbersome 8 pounds of camera and lens can become.

Manufacturer's neck strap around my neck and the 100-400 on the camera.
KISS works wonders.

I think I have a pretty good solution. Below is a copy from a recent post I made elsewhere in UHH. A detail some may especially like is that the Capture Camera clip that I describe here uses an Arca Swiss plate, so you can unholster your camera from the harness and put it right onto a tripod.

>For carrying in the field, I use a camera harness that I had modified to carry heavier cameras. The main harness is explained here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-600497-1.html. I have since done the same thing to a hip holster for my big camera and heavy zoom lens. The hip holster cannot hang from my pants belt (the camera is way to heavy to allow that!) So it is fastened to the belt of the main harness. The entire assembly is quite comfortable. For added security in case of dropping a camera (though that has not happened), the cameras are tethered to the harness with cord and spring clip. You can see the entire harness system well enough here.

and a cord and clip is shown here. The clips go to rings on the main harness.

This is how a man carries a Nikon 200-500 mm lens. "No straps or slings that you don't need, this little handle is a: bad ass need".

What is this handle? Thanks
