I like the color. At first glance it looks like flames which is cool. The thing that troubles me is that the fiery brilliance in the middle gets swallowed up in the hazy yellow background. If only there were a way to isolate the interesting part and de-emphasize the part taking away from it.

Hmmm I guess I could try masking out the center. I envy you the sax. I tried but according to my Mom in law, I can't hear flats and sharps and I should quit trying before I drove her craze (She has perfect pitch)

Funny. I don't have perfect pitch either. Sometimes I think it's a blessing, especially with saxophone which is hard to play in tune.
As far as your photo goes have you considered masking the central subject and making the background monochrome? That's what I was thinking. I would be going for more depth and that might just work but you won't know unless you try it.
